Help! Sick Baby Piggie!
Last night I discovered one of my baby guinea pigs had a swollen bottom. The area right beneath its anal opening is hard and seems to be filled with a smelly, thick, white discharge.
I have applied warm, wet cloths to the area and expressed some of the gunk out but it is still yucky.
Does anyone know what might be causing this and how to fix it? The bay is about 2-3 weeks old.

It sounds like he is either impacted or he has "grown up". I would try to get as much of the "gunk" out of there using mineral oil and swabs. It smells horrid, but he needs to get cleaned out. If you are unable to do it, bring him to the vet and have it done.

I'm no guinea pig expert, but that doesn't look normal to me. I'd take him in to see the vet today.

I've put a towel for bedding in the cage.I'm also washing the area and pouring peroxide. She is eating, drinking and playing normally and it doesn't seem to be bothering her.
I will however be taking her to the vet tomorrow! I haven't a penny to my name until then.

That looks like a he, but if things are swollen like you say it could be a she? Do not pour peroxide on that poor piggy. Keep it on towels and make sure he/she is still pooping and peeing. Get the baby to the vet and hopefuly a cavy knowledgable one. And do not pull on anything coming out of the opening! If it is a she it may be her uterus.

I just walked in the door from visiting the vet.
Although the area was much less swollen and nasty we made an appt and braved the roads to the Vet.
Baby Truffles had an infection of unknown cause in its bottom. He pulled out some necrotic tissue and gave me an antibiotic to flush out the opening several times a day.
