Help with my doggy!!!

Hi,

Im a new member. Anyway, here is my problem. My dog is about 8 1/2 years old, she is half pittbull and half hound. Over the past week she hasnt had much of an appetite, she wont eat her food(Hill's C/D) and people food, not even the steak i brought home for her. She has had diareha on and off, but when I took her to the park yesterday, it was reddish brown and runny. Yes I know its not a pretty thought. She hasnt been throwing up, but has lost a light weight from her lack of appetite. I took her to the vet on wednesday, she was sedated, the vet checked her chompers and stomach and he didnt any abnormalities. I had bloodwork done and he called thrusday morning to say her bloodwork came back fine. She drank water this morning, so I was releived with that, but I dont know whats wrong, the vet told me she is fine, he is the pro so i trust him, but sumthin just aint right..I looked up Parvo and she doesnt show really any of the symptoms, I looked up any symptoms for worms and she doesnt show the symptoms except the appetite and bad stool....Anyone have any ideas, thoughts, speculations?

Im worried about my couch protector!

thanks

joseph

Okay, if someone told me this at my job (ER vet) over the phone, I would advise them to come in. What we would do would include x-rays and bloodwork, including checking her clotting times since she apparently has blood in her stool.

I would get a second opinion, Joseph. Any chance she could've eaten any rat poison?

Same here. There's obviously SOMETHING wrong. I've unfortunately seen alot of parvo around here and it doesn't sound like you need to worry about that. Sorry I'm no more help. Good luck!

I was able to contact the vet earlier and he recommended an intestinal anitbiotic. She has started to eat some, a little bit of her C/D and some bread, some cheese, and a little rice. I picked up the antibiotic, now all i have to do is outsmart her....She definately hasnt gotten into any poisons, i dont have rat poisons and the only chemicals i have like motor oil, brake fluid, etc are kept in my closet and i keep the door shut.

But she is eating, ironically right when I called the vet...Im going to have my mom see about taking her to a ER vet since my vet closes in a few minutes..Thanks for the advice. Ill let y'all know when she feels better

A good trick with the antibiotic is to put it in peanut butter or something else sticky and then spread it on the roof of the mouth. Forces them to lick and ingest.

Well, she is feeling better, alot better. Odie(my dog) is eating her food, drinking her water and seems to be alot happier. And is crapping right. Since she tries to mooch food from me, I hide her medication in whatever she bums off me..usually bread, chicken, etc....

I would like to thank everyone for thier help, I havent slept in a week...a 40+ hour a week job, college classes, and a sick dog have made for a nerve wracking week.

Well, I just thought I would let everyone know.....I have taken her to another vet for further evaluation and my dog had a sonogram done today because her condition began to deteriorate. Her results were not good. She has severe intestinal damage/disease and damage to the walls of her instestines. I am going to have to do the one thing I dreaded not doing and that is have her go bye-bye. I have no choice and do not want to see her suffer anymore. I would like to thank everyone for thier input on the issue I have brought you.

thank you

joseph
