Is this a FS you got from a breeder? Or a wild caught FS?
If it is from a breeder, you might want to let them know what is going on and see if they will offer some help. If it is wild caught are there any rehabilitators in your area that could help?
Either way if it is very sick and has mites, I think it needs to get it to the vet ASAP.
This was a wild FS it has died and no vet in town would take it. The girl found it in the spring as a baby she was moveing and could not take it that is how I got it. I found out tonight that she never cleaned the cage or took care of it. when I got it....it was clean smelling little did I know she knew I was comeing to get it and gave it a bath. her and her parents need a good kick in the rear. I was leting it get use to my house and my pets before I handled it very much just kept lots of food and water in its cage and kept the door shut to the room to keep out the cats and dogs. when I wiped it down with a wet cotton ball the first time the ball came covered with red mites so that is telling me as bad as it was they knew this and I think that is why they gave it up when they did. Also during this week I lost 14 of my 15 finches they were next to the cage so I wonder it the mites did that too. it the mean time all the cages have been bleached
It's doubtful that mites from a flying squirrel would be at all interested in finches. Most mites are pretty specific about their hosts. Jumping from mammal to bird would be a pretty big leap.
