Molly and Bailey problems HELP!!!

My friend and I took the dogs out this afternoon to give them excercise. We let them off the leash in the big field where they always run and some person leaves bread on the side of the field. Of course Molly and Baily run over and grab some. We try to catch them and they run away and eat the bread! The other bread that was still there had tons of mold on it. We monitored them for two more hours and nothing seems to be wrong, they ate, pooped, and peeed normally. What is bothering me is that Molly seems to be acting a bit lethargic and I honestly don't know what to do. I am really worried right now, not even concerned about if the owner will fire us. I just hope Molly is okay. She is usually so hyper and happy, and now she's not. I'll go check up on her to make sure she's okay in an hour or so and if need be call the vet. Is this fatal?

Call Animal Poison Control and see what they suggest. (There is a $50 charge for this, but it's well worth it.)

They'll probably want you to take the dogs in. Mold can cause a wide variety of symptoms, depending on the type. Anything from GI upset to liver failure.

If you can't call the hotline, you can call a vet. If you have a vet that you know and trust whom you have a good relationship with, they'll often tell you over the phone whether or not you have an emergency. I do this to my vet all the time, and it's saved me quite a few visits. It also saved Cami's life once. She had an emergency. Because I called ahead, the vet was all ready for us and knew what she had before we even got there.

If payment is an issue, explain that over the phone. Many vets are more than willing to work something out. However, many vets also refuse services to minors, so make sure you take someone over 18 with you if you have to go to the vet.

I just got back from Molly and Bailey's house. They both seem fine and we called the vet and he said that the mold wouldn't cause enough damage because both are pretty big dogs and the mold is just like peniccilin. We will go back later tonight to check up on both and let them out again, far away from the moldy bread. We'll be talking to the school about that, it was dumped by the cafeteria ladies.

Please keep a close watch on them. We had a dog come in with liver failure due to mold. He was hospitalized for 4 days.

My friend is going in before her Tae Kwan Do class, I'm coming in around 8, and we'll both come in an hour or so later. I want you to know, in no way am I taking this lightly. I am extremely worried, and we will take them to the vet's if anything changes, my mom agreed to that.

For future referrence, you can give a dog a bit of hydrogen peroxide to induce vomitting, immediately after of course, you catch them eating something like that. I had to do it once for dogs that I thought ate 1 lb of fudge. (ended up that they did NOT eat it..hubby did, and left bag out.which they chewed up).

Hope your dogs have a fast recovery.

Thanks. Molly and Bailey are both fine. We took them to the school yesterday to meet all the little kids. They were such little angels, although Molly got a bit overwhelmed. They are with their owners now, they came back last night and everything is fine. Thanks all.
