My Sweet Malamute hurt her Leg )o:

Hi! I am new to this site, but I am hoping someone has some advice. I have the most beautiful Dog ever, she is an 8 year old Alaskan Malamute. She LOVES to run and jump and play, so cute! Somehow, last week she injured her front right leg. My husband and I are almost always around the house and we have NO idea what she did to her leg. We just noticed last week that she was limping on her rt leg. She had her tail down also and appeared to be in pain (we have never seen her tail down EVER in 8 years!). So, my husband and I rushed her to the vet. . .

Well, the vet (who appears to be VERY novice) suggested it could be cancer, arthritis, or even valley fever (all of which seemed odd to just rapidly appear), but what do I know?! So, we had numerous x-rays done, while my baby was sedated. The x-rays showed that her bones and legs look beautiful, and the vet suggested that she had a soft tissue injury (sounds reasonable). We were given doggy ibuprophen for pain and told to keep our very energetic and curious dog on strict bed rest.

Well, we have done as instructed for the past week and she actually appears WORSE! Now she is curving the paw in when she walks. It looks almost like some sort of nerve damage, but I don't know. I called the vet today, who admitted she really doesn't have experience with this, and she said we should bring her in for more tests and blood work. Also, that my Angel (my Maly's name) would probably have to see a neurologist and have an MRI. I was like, and after all that, what can be done for nerve damage - she didn't think much could be done just meds......

Ok, so I need some help. Does anyone have any experience with a dog having these symptoms? What did you do? Please any suggestions?

I really, really appreciate any help or advice you can give me. I am totally at a loss.... My poor Angel Baby...

If you can I would take her to a different Vet. You also have the right to ask for the x-rays (you paid for them so they are yours)they already took of her leg and bring them with you to the other Vet.

Good luck and let us know how she is doing.

I would get a second opinion too or call around if there are not local ones and find a close one that would do a second opinion or at least look at the xrays via mail or something
