seriously ill hamster

I have a long haired hamster for 1.5 years he has been perfectly fine until the night before last when he didnt come from his house to eat or play. the next morning we noticed no food had been eaten. When checked on one eye was closed and he rolled over and was unable to get back up. Last night he came from his house only to roll around in his cage. He looked extremely uncomfortable and in pain.He would be still and then appeared to spasm. His tongue seemed blue. We just thought he was getting old and there was no point in going to a vet but im not so sure now. He is still alive but doesnt look so good. Does anyone have any ideas as to what is wrong with fluffy??? we are very upset.
