Speedy

Hello,

My beloved cat, Speedy, is having some serious problems all of a sudden. He is a four year old, eighteen pound cat. He is acting very strange, he drags his back legs, his left front leg is bent inward when he walks. He walks in circles most of the time. His eyes go off in different directions, just staring into space. Speedy can't walk without shaking. He weezes also. The vet thinks he either had a stroke or has a brain tumor. The vet gave him high doses of steriods to see if he will get better. His weezing calmed down but nothing else stopped. The vet said the steriods should help in a few days. He likes laying on people, something he never did before. Most of the time three fourths of his eyelids are closed. Speedy's irises are very big and round. The future does not look very good for Speedy, it is most likely a tumor in his brain (that can not be cured by steriods). If he is not better Monday we will have to put him to sleep. I would like to hear anything you know about this situation. I thank you in advance for your support and this forum. Here is a [normal] picture of Speedy (his eyes are usually opened more, he just was the morning and i opened the shades so light would come in, which freaked him out): Speedy

Do you by any chance have a live Christmas Tree? If so did you put any chemicals in the water?

I'm so sorry about Speedy. This sounds eerily like what happened to my first kitten Sunadance. He was 4 months old, and it was right about now. The vet also told me a stroke - which to me was very strange for a kitten.

I wish you the best of luck.

No Christmas tree, it does not look like posioning either. Thank you, it doesn't seem like he is getting better (we still have a few more days of steriods to go) - it's probably a tumor. It just seems so weird, he was fine in the morning, then after we came back from going out to dinner he was hiding and acting strange. The next day he was scheduled to go to the vet (just a coincidence), and that's when we found out. Thanks again.

Hmm..I've seen something similar like this in cats a couple of times at work. Speedy sounds pretty severe. He may still slowly get better. I'll pray the steroids work for him. Can he eat or drink anything?

Awww, how sad. Can the vet do a scan to check for a tumor? I would just want to make sure that its a tumor for sure before putting him to sleep. I wish you and Speedy the best of luck. I had to have my kitty Sneakers put to sleep last month and he was only three. Its so hard to lose them at such a young age.

Yes, it's amazing. He is 95% his old self! Speedy is eating, using the bathroom, and of course he is waking me up at five in the morning. The steriods really helped, but he could have another stroke. The vet said that there is a high chance that he will have another stroke, so we need to carefuly watch him. Thanks for all of your support!
