Just my opinion but I would find another vet to go to while your regular vet is out of town... these people seem to be having a flippant attitude towards the whole situiation.... a blockage is a serious thing and not something to be taken lightly (ie: laughed at). If your dog did indeed eat a plastic bag and hasn't had a #2 for a few days this really needs to be looked at by somone else ASAP (I am surprised they sent him home with you and that they didn't discuss how they were going to get the plastic bag out).

I would get out the phone book tonight and get a list of vets in your area together and make calls first thing in the morning to have him seen elsewhere.

I'd get a second opinion as well. If your dog isn't defecating, that suggests a real problem. I'd at least start asking more specific questions. Ask to see the x-rays, and have them point out how they know the blockage is working it's way out. If they are professional and courteous, they should be willing to really lay things out for you and put you at ease. Ask them if he should have something like mineral oil, or subcutaneous fluids, or if they should do an ultrasound. Maybe I'm being hypercritical, but something seems off to me. If it was a minor thing, I think the symptoms should not be lasting this long. I just can't wrap my mind around an ER vet being flippant about something though...it's really a legitimate place?

I'm sorry you have to worry about your job, I know that must just add even more stress to a very stressful situation. We have ER vets around here that are open 24 hours, they cost more, but if you have anything like that around you, you could walk in with pup and work around your hours.

Please keep us updated, and let us know how things work out. I'm suspicious of your current vet!

LuvMeTrue will become famous soon enough
I recommned u get a second opinon on the situation if you are uncomfortable with the opinon u got. Getting a second opnion never hurts except the wallet when u have to pay for the visits. But u need to do what will make both you and ur pet feel better. If he isn't having bowel movements other then trowing up that in its self is a sign that u mite want to get a second opinon.
