This Can't be happening!!!

I can't belive this! I lost my hamster Luna in september to wet tail, and my black bear hamster died of cancer in late october. Now, Luna's sister sable is showing the same symptoms that Luna did I don't know what to do! I gave her the dri-tail medicine last night when I noticed her bottom was stained. I just gave her a does a little while ago as well. I don't wanna lose sable too

Do you keep your hamsters in the same cage, or close to one another? Wet tail is caused by bacteria from what I understand. If you used the same cage, toys, etc. as your other sick hamster the bacteria could be transferred. If you haven't isolate the sick hamster. If you touch the infected hamster wash your hands very well before handling any other hamsters.

Here is a website that explains it in more detail:

Thats too bad!
Not to sound mean, but you should probably not get any more hamsters if you cant take them to the vet...
Was Sable in Lunas old cage by chance? If she was, she probably got it from that because wet tail is VERY contagious.

Sorry for your loss. Hamsters can go downhill rather quickly. They are very small animals.

(Marmilla = quilex btw. I finally figured out my old username! )

Jess is correct, wet tail is very contagious. I would wash the cage with bleach before you have any more pets in it or give it away. Just make sure to rinse it very well. Enzyme cleaners will not kill the bacteria. Most "safe" pet cleaners won't kill bacteria either. Remember when you're dealing with this stuff it is tiny and can hide in crevices. Immersing the cage in bleach would be the best bet. Aside from rising it many times, you will need to let it air out. The beach can be harmful if breathed in. I would bleach, rinse & rinse, let it dry, rinse & rinse, let it dry, and rinse again.

thanks you guys I don't keep my hamsters in the same cage. But, I got sable and Luna as babies and they stayed in the same cage for a few weeks, and that's all. Sable was not in Luna's old cage either. Boo is in Luna's old cage and he's perfectly healthy and happy. At least I have him and brownie, my calico hamster. I'll stick with these two for now. My mom and dad don't want me having anymore hamsters
