My new betta has fin rot...

I went to the fish store to get my turts some feeder guppies and I checked out the bettas like I always do. One in particular caught my attention. His coloring is awesome. He's whitish with purple swirls and splotches all over his body and fins. His fins looked stragley but I thought I'd try to help him. So I bought him. He has fin rot. His big top fin has a hole in the middle of it and the rest of his fins are pretty ragged. I bought fungus eliminator and aquarium salt to help him. I got his home set up and he's swimming around, but his fins look horrible. I hope he pulls through. Oh, his name is Jerry because he looks like he's tie dyed and tie dye makes me think of Grateful Dead. My other betta, Joey, came from Wal-mart, his fins didn't look as bad, but he wasn't in good health. I just keep his water clean and his fins are showing new growth. But, I feel I need to take extra steps with my new guy because his fin rot is so advanced. Does anyone have any suggestions and does anyone know how long it will be before his fins start to heal?

I'm going to give you a guestimate

I've successfully dealt with fin rot a number of times, and I saw healing and growth about a week (if I correctly recall) into the medicating. If you keep a close eye on him, you may notice healing sooner. It would really depend on how bad the fin rot is and what meds you're using. (I've had to switch meds to heal fin rot a time or two, and I've lost one Betta to it.)

Fingers crossed that your fishy gets better! Isn't it sad that pet store bettas always have to be rehabilitated?
