Oranges and Fish
I was at a petstore yesterday, and I happened to see chunks of orange slices floating in many of the aquarium tanks and the fish were going nuts for them! Have any of you guys tried that to your fish...its probably used to supply vit C for the fish and help with color brightness...however..how often should that be done...and do most fish like it? are there any other citrus fruits that one can try?

Goldfish like them, they also like cucumbers. When I used to work at Petstupid, we had to put them in the tanks. Some tropical fish also got lettuce. We also gave peas once a week to the goldfish.
I don't really know the benefits, except for extra vitamins. They did enjoy the extra food though. But it made the tank a mess

i know that they also will go for sliced zuchinni. I used to feed that to my plecostomus and the other fish loved it too. Cucumbers also went over very well.

The vegetable-loving fish can indeed have some fruit . Goldfish and plecos would probably appreciate oranges.
I feed vegetables a few times a week to my platies and guppy. I mainly feed romaine lettuce, baby spinach, escarole, carrot greens, carrots (good for enchancing color), brocolli, and cucumbers. Feeding fish veggies makes them less likely to nibble on live plants and gives them extra vitamins. Certain veggies help prevent disease and others enchance color .
I actually have a betta (he lives with the guppy and platies) who loves vegetables . He's strange...he goes crazy for them! Oh, and he hates bloodworms. Go figure .

Oh, don't oranges have that pesticide they make in their skin, can't that be dangerous?

yeah i dont think they feed the orange rind to the fish...that wouldnt make any sense. They wouldnt be able to chew it up with their little fish lips with no teeth big enough..they would actually choke on it i think.

Hn, I figured people would slice the orange and throw the slices, skin and all in, I guess the rind is thick enough that the oils don't get to the fruit goodness inside?
