please help!

i live in arizona but i go to school in colorado.
i bought a betta fish up here to keep me company, basically since fish are all we are allowed to have and i wanted a buddy

but in may i am going to have to make the 13 hour 2 day trip back home to phoenix. needless to say it will be very long and hot.

does anyone have any suggestions on how to get my little guy home with me?

Your best bet would bag him up and keep him in a cooler for the trip. Use styrofoam or something similar to keep him from being moved around. Try to have enough water so that he'll still be covered if the bag tips over on it's side...but not much more. You want there to be plenty of air since bettas come to the surface to breathe.

Fast him for a day prior to the trip and try to keep the car from getting too hot (that would be my biggest concern, personally). The petstore will be able to give you some tips...they get fish shipped to them all the time. I've never shipped fish myself.

It is going to be stressful but there isn't much you can do. Unless you wanted to ship him overnight to the house.

No, don't feed him during the trip. You don't want there to be any food in his system because he'll quickly soil the water. The resulting ammonia is going to burn him. Bettas can easily go over a week without food and be fine .

I actually had one petstore betta refuse to eat for the first month I had him . He finally ate and lived to be two and a half years old.
