white, cloud-like slime?

Could be cotton disease, though I'm sure that's not the scientific name.

I've never dealt with it, but you may ask piggers about it, she could probably tell you more than I could. Try doing a google search on it.

There's medication out there that you can try.

Some fish need thier water treated for clouding and some need a type of product that helps coat their bodies with a sort of "healty" slime. I would take it back and ask the people in the fish section...if they can't come up with a GREAT excuse..than you should get a new one!!! Pet stores always take bad care of Bettas because they think that they don't need care, or space. But they do, they would rather have a large bowl that a small cup sized one, and make sure there is plenty of air getting in, the need tons of fresh air to breath at the top of the water. Good luck!!!!!!

I would take him back, My sister had the same thing on her $30.00 goldfish and petsmart told her it came from her other fish. Well none of her other fish had it, so she got this stuff that made her water blue and it cleared it up, but the fish was never really healthy and later on all of them got it and died. She had to treat her tank 3 times and it got really costly. She never got any more fish from them. She gets her fish from Wal-mart. She works there and they treat their tanks when they get new shipment in.

Good Luck

Cool

Another suggestion

Try a pinch of salt in the water. Sometimes that helps w/fresh water fish.

If I can ever see my desk again I'm gonna get a beta to sit here w/me - but don't tell Bubba!!
