Snails
Does anyone here have freshwater snails? I bought one today to help with the algae problem in my 10 gallon. It is a big gold snail, so I named him/her Goldie. This is my first fw snail.

Snails are so cool, yet yucky.
I wish you luck with them, but I know nothing about them, sorry!

I was thinking of getting a snail myself as occasionally get the odd bit of algae in my 10 gallon but not over keen on them so going to go for a algae eating fish instead, think they live a good year or maybe more if looked after right as remember asking on a fish site i'm a member off!

Hey Steph, Brad and I had a couple snails in our tank last year, we had a black one and a goldish one. They were really cool! Ours didn't seem to live that long for some reason, like Steph (purple) said, I think ours only lived a few months, too. So I'm not really sure how long their lifespan really is?
We have a pleco (algae eater) in our tank, he is huge! We've had him for about a year and a half. We have a little gargoyle statue (ya, Brad wanted it lol) and the other night, the pleco was sitting on him, cleaning the statue, it just looked so funny, him sitting on the gargoyle!

Do you know what sort of snail you have got as that can depend on life expectency? Most snails given right conditons and temperature can reach well over 3 years of age but there longevity all depends on the temperature of your tank as at a temperature of 25°C they will only live 12-16 months. At higher temperatures, the snails are more active because their metabolism increases with the temperature, but this also speeds up their life cycle and thus shortens their life expectancy. Ideal temperatures are between 18 and 28°C (65-82°F) according to what i have just read! Hope this is a little help

Oppsie! Sorry I missed this, Steph. Yup, we have fishies, too, a 20 gallon tank. We have 2 really neat frogs that believe it or not, we got at Wal-mart 2 years ago! They are so cool and pretty small, and we don't really know what *kind* they are. They chill in the tank and come up for air bubbles alot. I tried to get a picture of them in the tank but it didn't turn out really well. lol! We also have our pleco, a ghost catfish, a freshwater clownfish, and another tropical fish we don't know what it is. It's orange and has a pretty colored tail.
