tearing down our salt tank

well we have come to the painful decision to tear down our salt tank. we have been fighting with it for a while now and don't know what else to try. the latest problems include a ton of algae growth and we have had two fish die in the last couple of days. my husband has developed some health problems in the last couple of days and it i just getting to be to much for him. he does most of the work and i just don't have the time. i am really bummed but maybe we will do another one some day when the kids are gone. we want to put something else in there but are not sure what. we had talked about discus but they don't seem much easier that salt and at 45-60 dollars a pop we don't want to screw up and kill them. plus i was doing some reading and we really don't have a big enough tank. another thought was chiclids which is the way i think we will go but need to do much more research.

Discus are a lot of work they are very picky and expensive. I have done african cichlids and they are pretty low maintenance. Im sorry to hear that you have to take down the salt, they are so nice to have. Hope your husbands health gets better!

LOL....cichlids are my fav too! They do have quite the personalities! We did start with an African tank but didn't last to long. We only have one bumblebee left and he has set up residency with the Jack Dempseys.

How are Jack Dempseys and bumblebee cichlids to keep?

I would love to have convicts and oscars again in the future, but am also now going to look into other cichlid species as well.
