Three spot Angelfish

Apolemichthys trimaculatus

So called because of two lateral spots just behind the gill covers (hard to see in this photo) and the spot on the forehead.

Maintenance difficulty:
This fish is moderately difficult to keep.

Maintenance:
This fish is a medium hard to keep angelfish and should be offered as much variety and live foods as possible to get it to eat properly. Roger C. Steenes' book, Butterfly and Angelfishes of the World, suggests "the tank walls should be covered with algae and the hobbyist should offer mysis, artemia (frozen), flake food, freeze dried red mosquito larvae, and enchytrae."

Habitat: Natural geographic location:
These fish are found throughout the Indo-Australian Archipelago, the Phillipines, and in the Indian Ocean to the African coast.

Natural Foods:
Not found.

Social Behaviors:
Not found. Should be peaceful in an aquarium.

Sexual differences:
Unknown.

Light: Recommended light levels:
No special requirements.

Breeding/Reproduction
Not accomplished in captivity. See Breeding Marine Fish page for a description of how they reproduce in the wild.

Temperature:
No special requirements. Normal temperatures for marine fish lies between 75 and 79 degrees.

Length/Diameter of fish:
These fish reach a maximum size of about 6 inches (15 cm).

Minimum Tank Length/Size:
A minimum 40 gallon aquarium is recommended.

Water Movement: Weak, Moderate, Strong
No special requirements.

Water Region: Top, Middle, Bottom
No special requirements.

Availability:
This fish is generally available from time to time.
