Under tank heaters

Can under tank heaters be used for to heat up a tropical aquarium?

Absolutely not. It says so on the package .

It's much safer to use an aquarium heater . Plus, that way you can heat it to the exact temperature you want...unlike undertank heaters. Remember, fish would rather have a stable temperature then warm water that randomly gets hotter or colder.

Thank you for clearing that up.I'm looking at items on ebay & last night there was a under tank heater listed that looked like it was the zoomed kind, that sticks to the bottom of the aquarium & cant be removed & in the desription it said "Great for tropical fish!!" (it was being sold "as is" out of package.

That's weird...I wouldn't try it. Every undertank heater we've had has said on it not to use for aquariums. They were probably just trying to sell it and didn't really know.

I cant edit my posts to fix spelling errors...

I was looking for fish supplies (aquariums) & when I saw that listed I asked on here.I've only ever used under tank heaters for lizards before pretty much (half the tank size or a bit less so there was a warmer area & a cooler area). Didn't know if it was a new "invention" of something
