Corn Snake Feeding

Here's some pictures of Cheerios latest feed, this goes with this but I didn't want anyone to get mad at me so I'll put them here.

WARNING:Snake EATING you have been WARNED
This is for new snake owners wondering how to feed their snake,I have warned you please do not yell at me because of the pictures.

Last chance turn back now

If is best to feed corn snakes pre-killed mice.Feed according to the size of your snake. Before feeding thaw and warm the mouse. As you can see in the back of this picture,I thaw my mice on tile pieces, under the heat lamp, although this may take longer than using water,my snake likes then dry and using this method heats them up to body temperature.

I feed my snake in a plastic shoe box lined with paper towel or TP,for easy clean up

The box is the perfect size

Dangle the mouse infront of your snake, you may also want to drag it along so the snake will with it is still alive.Be sure the mouse is warm so they will be more attracted to it and will not become chilled from eatting a cold mouse

Once the snake strikes the mouse you may need to tug on the mouse a bit to encourage the snake to begin constricting and/or swallowing depending on the snake.I sometimes need to do this for my snake to begin swallowing

It is best to dangle the mouse by the tail so the snake will swallow head first

I use a heat lamp to keep her warm in the winter and summer (A/C is on)

Once the snake has swallowed the mouse she will make an 's' with her body pushing the mouse farther down.

After the snake has finished eating, she should be gently placed back in her tank, with a fresh bowl of water(great opportunity to see your snake drinking). You should not disturbed your snake for at least 48 hours after feeding.

If you have anything to add please feel free to.

Thanks everyone.

Candyraver- I've only ever fed her F/T,because the breeder did and I don't have the heart to go out and buy a live one, and I probably would end up keeping the mouse, plus my mom is scared of rodents.
I feel really bad when I feed her though because the last couple mice I have fed her were real pretty.

Awws,I can relate there..I used to have pet mice, they sadly passed away (tho I definitely want more someday )

Snakes make great pets...& they have to eat too...F&T is the way to go though.

Those pics were amazing, really interesting. I love the look on the snakes face when she is about to go for the mouse, really intense. It's the same look our chameleon has when he is just about to shoot his tongue out for a cricket. However my camera work is nowhere near good enough to catch that! I also like Cheerios colouring, really bright and attractive.

My corn snake Tango eats frozen fuzzies at the time being but i plan to feed live when he gets big enough. My other snakes all eat live and i don't mind even though i have pet mice and rats. It's harder to deal with live rats because they show more pain and whatnot. Especially knowing how sweet my rats are. But like stated, it's all a part of nature. And i love all animals. So gotta keep them all happy. =)

Nice snake. How many do you have.

I would suggest staying on F/T and NOT going to live, and taking the snake out of the tank to feed as the bedding can harm the snake.

I have five..and I like feeding live a lot better. All of them eat live except Tango. And that bedding is digestible, even though it's still not good for him, it's not going to hurt him. He actually washed it off in his water dish. I couldn't believe he actually was that smart. But then he drug it back into the bedding. So it didn't really make a difference.

I guess its personal preference whether to feed F/T or live.I would recommend F/T to any new snake owners reading this.

Bean-I would love to see some pictures of your snakes if you ever get a chance you post some.
