I have a 2 year old ball python I bought from my stepson. He was feeding frozen but the store ran out and he had to feed live. The following week he tried prekilled and she wouldn't touch it. She went five weeks not eating because they wouldn't offer her live feed. Her backbone got more and more prominent. The pet store owner where he purchased her wanted to force feed her. I did not allow this to happen. That is too stressful for the snake. I bought her and gave her a live feed, wow it took her 2 minutes to hunt and 10 minutes to eat. A few hours later I fed her another one this time it took her 3 minutes to hunt and eat. She has been happy and healthier since then. She has been live fed ever since. I don't agree with frozen because you are taking their natural instinct s away from them. If they don't eat the live feed within 5 -8 minutes just simply take it out and try the following day. I now raise my own feeder mice. I have 5 pregnant fancy mice due within the next 3 weeks. That ought to last me awhile.

I have 15 snakes. 10 corns (2 amels, 1 miami phase, 1 striped, 1 ghost, 1 normal, 1 butter, 1 hypo, 1 snow, and 1 bloodred). 1 colombian red tailed boa, 1 caulkers cay boa, and 3 ball pythons.

Ball pythons are very picky eaters and prefer live but we have had great luck getting them all to eat frozen/thawed. The best way is to feed a live and then do a train feed of a frozen/thawed before their jaw closes. They will usually take the frozen that way and then they will take them after that. There are many other "tricks" you can use to get a stubborn eater to eat without having to feed live. Once they take the bigger sizes they can get really hurt by the mice/rats fighting back. Plus we just find it really hard to feed live.
