Unhappy

Snake is still not eating

Max, my rosey boa, has not eaten in about 5 weeks. First I thought it was because he was going to shed, then 2 weeks later I tried againand he didn't eat and thought it was because the reptile heat bulbs I used sucked and didn't have it warm enough. So now I have waited almost 3 weeks to give him another mouse, put new bulb in and now the mouse is running around his cage and living in his little cave

He is otherwise fine and I can't figure out what else to do. Maybe he will just finally eat this mouse

Hopefully he'll eat the mouse before the mouse eats him. Anyway... this is breeding season for them - is he old enough to be bred? If so, he may just be being fussy because of that. If not, a month or more is really not a big deal - just be patient with him, I'm sure he'll come around. Double check your temps with another thermometer to be sure. Just please don't leave the mouse in there for long periods of time, I'd hate to see your snake get hurt.

The mouse doesn't live very long at all. He kills them but he doesn't eat them. This one is hiding but I haven't left the room yet so he is okay (the snake). I am not sure but I think he could breed now (he is around 2 1/2 years). He has never done this before so maybe that is it.

Thats about the age they are mature enough to breed. I'd be willing to bet he's just hoping a female will come along.
I bet he'll come around in a couple weeks.

Thank you all for your help. Unfortunately, Maximus passed away that night. Its amazing how attached you can get to a snake I am so heartbroken For the life of me I cannot figure out what happened. He didn't show any signs of being sick until the very end. He became lethargic but that was it. There were no bubbles coming from his nose, no detection of parasites and looked healthy, and the last time he ate the poop was normal. I have learned that snakes are both the easiest and hardest animals to take care of, if you can understand that. Thanks again for all your help.

Sorry for your loss... that sucks. Very strange. I hate it when things like that happen without much reason.

Dena, I'm so sorry that he passed away so quickly and mysteriously. We're here for you.

Thank you guys. I am still so crushed. I haven't even taken down his cage yet because I am hoping I'll look in and he'll be there.
