mali uromastyx
I just picked up a pair of these today. They are like the most awesome lizards ever. pretty much vegetarian, but they like it dry and hot, like, 120 degrees, and no water bowl. they get their water from their veggies. Very awesome. They've got such big personalities. I'm very excited to have them. I've got a boy and a girl, I named them Nick and Nora. They were a bit stressed out from their car trip today, so i was only able to get pics of Nick. Nora was pretty much crazy when I tried. so anyways, here are pics of Nick. Nora is a bit smaller, and much lighter.

congrats, he is cute.
from what i found researching iguana's is that they normally only get water from veggies too, however, all lizards should have a water dish as well even if they don't drink normally sometimes they will you may want to consider putting a water dish in there

these guys need really high temps, and really low humidity. Putting water in there at those temps would make it way too humid and they'd get sick.
I know that most animals should have water available at all times, but these guys just don't do well with it. They are healthy and completely hydrated, and have been kept without access to a water bowl for awhile now.
They will be getting baths every week or two, where they can soak and drink water if they want to. but even the most reputable breeders of these guys don't give them access to water bowls.

Oh congrats!!!! Super cute and one of my favorite reptiles.
My old friend used to have one and he enjoyed being petted,at least it seemed that way.He would arch his back and close his eyes when you stroked his back! It was cute.

Very nice, what cool pets to have. I'm slightly confused by what uromastyx means tho, is that their 'group' name (like chameleon) or their specific type (like veiled or panther)? I'm not sure if that made a lot of sense but I hope you get my drift! They look very interesting.

mali is the specific type (actually, the country this species comes from), and uromastyx is the 'group' name. there are other varieties of uromastyx, as well.
