:-) Question for the working mommies out there..how did you train your pup ro

successfully? We are bringing our baby yorkie girl home next week and I have decided to bring her home on a Friday after work so I can have all weekend with her. However, when Monday comes around, it will be back to the regular work schedule. My husband works from 7-4 Monday through Friday, and my schedule is a bit different. I work from 8-5 Monday , WEd. and Friday and will be able to be at home with the pup for 30 minutes these days in the afternoon on my lunch breat at 11:00. I plan to put up a baby gate in my kitchen, and leave her kennel door open so she can go on puppy pads. I know at this age, 8 weeks, she won't be able to hold her potty long. On Tuesdays and Thursdays I don't go in to class until 11, and I will return home at 12:30 on these days on lunch break for approx. an hour and a half before going back to class at 2:30. Do you think this will be okay, as far as leaving her in the kitchen with the baby gate up , food and water, and puppy pads? I really want to train her to potty outside of course, and was wondering how you all eased the transistion from puppy pads to potty outside all the time, and at what age? Any hints are appreciated! :-)

I think that sounds good. My MIL trained her mini doxie to piddle pads. It's great b/c in bad weather she just goes on the piddle pads. Lady also likes to go potty outside. You may want to concentrate on the piddle pads first so she doesn't get too confused. It will be nice to have a cross trained doggie so that if you are out for a long period of time you won't need to worry about her.
Good luck!

I hate to say it but having her going on pee pads all week long will confuse her when you want her to finally go outside. Being there 24-7 of course is the ideal way to go, Yeah yeah I know, can't. Its just harder for people that work during the day and get a pup too. Too bad you can't take her to work with you and take her out to potty. I know of plenty of people that litterbox train their yorkies. How about that.
Let her do her potty on the pee pads etc. then slowly add in a litterbox putting the pee pad inside it.

with my yorkie it was a little difficult at times...the people who had her first had her trained to go in her crate so trying to get her to learn to potty outside took a little longer, but when I worked I had family members take her out every 2 hours...I know alot of people can't do that, I was lucky...but she got potty trained pretty quick, I would say fully in 3 weeks...and except for 2 nights ago she hasn't had any accidents in her crate either since then...main thing is being consistent, since I am now a stay at home mommy she is only in the crate at night...good luck looking forward to seeing pictures soon

Okay, so letting her potty outside when I'm home, and then using piddle pads when I"m away will confuse her? It makes sense now that I think of it. So, basically, I need to just use piddle pads until she is older and I can expect her to hold her bladder for longer periods while I'm away? I don't want to confuse her, that's for sure. My breeder is already training her to go outside though, and she is doing so well, that I hate to break her of that :-(

I was fortunate and was able to take mine to work and trained him to go on Pee Pads in my office. You can get Pee Pads that smell of grass....... that may help with teaching your puppy to go outside.

corgimom will become famous soon enough
If she is already being trained to go outside than it may not be as confusing for her.
