Question

2 problems in one thread

someone else (can't remember who, sorry!!) posted all their dogs' problems in one thread. so i am going to do this. i would like to adopt another dog, but will NOT until these problems are fixed. penny was fine until chaquita came, now she is regressing. i think it has to do with the fact that she doesn't just sleep when i'm gone...

a thing to keep in mind is that i am moving into the house in about a week. their living condition will be as follows:
*day - in house and yard (haha..of course. )
*day when i'm gone - doggy gated into the small laundry room with doggy door access to the whole back yard (large yard).
*night - in crate for 2 (so they are together) with lots of pillows.

anyways...here goes.

Chaquita:
has nervous poopy when i leave from seperation anxiety (slight). how can i make her calm down a little? she does this right after going poopy outside sometimes.

Both:
are not 100% potty trained. i do all of the things i know you should. i take them out at all the main times (wake, before i leave, after i get home, after naps, before bed) and more. i praise them like an idiot when they go outside (i think the neighbors think i'm on drugs!! ), if i catch them in the act (very rare) i give a sharp "NO!" a few times, then clean it up. they have a specific potty area here at the apt's. they know exactly what to do when we go there. they just don't hold it often. i have to take them out too many times to prevent an accident. sorry i'm so "passionate" (haha) about this problem, it's just that i haven't had but maybe 5 accident-free days since i've had them! can you imagine? they were getting so much better when they were gated into the kitchen here at the apt., but the gate is warped and so i have to leave them out. should i crate? i'd like to be able to leave them in the laundry room so they can have the yard.

i dream of having potty-trained dogs! what can i do?

thank you so much in advance!!!

I can't even imagine not having adult dogs potty trained It must be so frustrating... I'm sure Deja will be along with wonderful advice, but I think the only thing that is going to work is to crate them. If they were doing well when confined to the kitchen, then they obviously need to be confined still. Crate training has worked wonders with my dogs (Dozer's been potty trained since the day he got here because of his crate). Good luck

thanks for the replies! yes, they were doing better when in the kitchen. i'm thinking that they will do better when in the laundry room and then having the yard with the doggy door.

i will start crating at night, though. one big crate for them both to be in. thanks guys!
