Forwarded from the Barf List for your information on the topic of
heartworm preventitives.
The following is from the Food and Drug Administration's website:
http://www.fda.gov/cvm/index/ade/ade_web_rpts2000.htm
Subject: New heartworm prevention stats:
I'm sure you're aware of the new 6 month type heartworm preventative.
Below is a recent study done on this product (Pro heart 6).
If you or anyone you know have considered using this you may want to
pass this on.
I found it interesting! Please note the list of contraindications.
*****
The injectable form of moxidectin (ProHeart 6) only came out recently,
so the FDA's Center for
Veterinary Medicine does not have the adverse
reaction reports up yet.
But the oral form of this has been on the market for a longer period,
and there were 21 dogs who died after taking ProHeart in the year 2000
