Antioxidants and Aging

I came across a study that caught my attention, thought I'd share.

Quote:
Antioxidants may help reverse the aging process, according to a University of Toronto Study. Antioxidants could prevent or slow down the rate at which brain cells deteriorate and to some extent improve mental clarity in aging animals, the study says. Researchers fed 10 and 11 year old beagles either a normal diet or one supplemented with vitamins E and C. The dogs receiving antioxidants learned specific tasks in 24 and 14 days. Dogs on regular diets learned the tasks in 36 and 19 days, respectively.

In another study, this one lasting 10 months, dogs learned to pick out different sized balls from a set of three balls. Those with the enriched diet took 16 days to learn the task, while those on a regular diet took an average of 228 days to learn.

Antioxidants may even reverse damage that's already occurred.

Excellent sources of vitamin E include: mustard greens, chard, sunflower seeds, and turnip greens. Very good sources include: broccoli, olives, kale, almonds, and papaya.

Excellent sources of vitamin C include: chili peppers, parsley, broccoli, bell pepper, strawberries, oranges, lemon juice, papaya, cauliflower, kale, mustard greens, and brussels sprouts.
