Thanks Stephanie! Hopefully he will be able to come home in the next day or two.
They said he has 2 slipped discs in his back - one up by his neck which isn't bothering him too much and then one in the lower lumbar area which is putting pressure on his spine causing him pain and making him unable to use his back legs very much. He actually stood up and walked about 6 or 7 steps yesterday then collapased and couldn't get up again.
The doctor said they were going to rehydrate him and then start him on very strong doses of steroids. He will have to be on "bed rest" for about 6 weeks and I will give him steroid pills while he is at home.
They also said he has arthritis in his back. His days of playing frisbee are gone. But at least we'll still have our little buddy around.
The vet/nurses there were great (we saw Dr. Legrange - sp?). They were very helpful and supportive. I really like that place. Thanks everyone for your prayers & support - and thank you Stephanie for checking on him!!

OMG, we just got a call from the vet. Bach is doing much worse. He is in a lot of pain, cannot stand and hasn't urinated. We don't really have any options left.
We are going to have to put him to sleep this afternoon. I can't breath. I don't know how I'm going to get through this. My hubby is coming to pick me up from work.
Please pray for us again.

Thanks everyone. It was especially hard because on Tuesday night we thought he was going to be ok. Then to find out that he went downhill so fast overnight and was getting worse & worse - it was heartbreaking.
Again, I appreciate your support.
And Stephanie, that memorial picture had both hubby & I crying for an hour!!! Thank you SO much!!! That you put in so much effort to help us is really touching. I hope I am able to repay you in some way when you need help.

No repayment is ever necessary, Jodi. I just hope you and your husband's hearts heal quickly and the painful memories are replaced with wistful smiles.
Hang in.

I am so sorry for your loss. I know how special Shepards are. I had a German Shepard growing up, and currently have one now. I know what you are going through, it takes a long time to get over.

Jodi, I am so sorry. I've had so much going on the last few days that I haven't had time to read alot of posts and just saw this today. I am in tears. How terrible. I am so sorry that you had to go through all of this. I know how hard it is to lose your dog that has been your best friend for years. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your hubby. Try to take comfort in the fact that Bach is no longer in pain and you tried your best to help him.
