Bad Knees/Luxating Patella

Hey..
I have a papillon, and in this breed it is very common to have knee problems. The vet called it a luxating patella, at a level 2( I think). She said I should get some joint pain relief now to give her everyday(shes only 1), b.c later in her life, it could get bad and she can have bad arthritis. If I give her this, she said it could be kind of a preventative against some of that later on, it can help build up some of the cartalidge she does have. She said I need something that has glucosamine and condroitants.. (spelling?? sry guys) Any one have any experience with this stuff? She said I can get it at the petstore, but I wanted to get some advice from u guys. Thx everyone.

i have a dog that had that. and it kind of depends on how uncomfortable your dog is. my dog's knees were so bad that she had trouble standing up and had a hard time running or walking and at that time, she was 5 months old. so, the best thing for her was to have surgery done on both knees. everynow and then, the pain will flare up and i'd have to give her a pain killer from the vet but i haven't had to do that in the past couple of years becuase nala has been getting a lot of exercise and the vet gives me this supplement for her knee joints to help build up the cartilage tissue in her knees. it's called GLYCO-FLEX and it took some time to work butit works great. also another thing you can do is put your dog on nutro max dog food because their food has glucosamine in it for healthy joints and bones. and make sure your dog doesn't get over weight if you dog is over weight, that will make it worse for your dog and as far as having your dog something to lay on, make sure it's very cushiony. and in the winter time, try to keep her as warm as possible too because the cold winter tends to cause a little bit of a problem. ever since i got pepper about a year ago, nala has been so much more active and running around and lost quite a bit of weight and she hasn't had any problems with her knees.

We used to use Glucosomine (sp??) for our German Shepherd. He had arthritis. It seemed to help for awhile.

I've heard some people have had really good results with it but I've also heard the opposite. So...

Anyone else?
