Bizarre and sad story...

My best friend's neighbors have a bunch of kids and they have two dogs that are tied out in their back yard. There was a stray dog with its chain still attached running around the neighborhood and it went into their yard. Somehow, the stray dog's chain got wrapped around one of the kids dog's neck and choked it to death. I'm having trouble imagining how a chain attached to a dog can get around another dogs neck. They caught the stray, it is a beautiful wiemeraner (sp), and are trying to find its owners. I feel really bad for the kids, cause they saw what had happened first. Its just sad.

My cousins' dog choked itself to death with its chain... it was very traumatic for the kids. They loved their dog... poor thing.

I asked my friend what has happened since this incident. She said that the neighbors filed a report with the police because pets aren't supposed to roam free up town and because their dog was an exspensive cocker spaniel. I personally don't think this is the way they should have went with this. Their dogs are on chains outside and could have gotten loose just as easily and caused someone elses dogs death. I think its just gonna cause more problems.

That's so sad...just another reason to not ever chain a dog like that. I have never, nor could ever chain a dog up...I've rented houses that didn't have fenced yards before and bought a kennel for when they are outside...I currently have a fenced yard so the kennel is currently at a friend's house for her dog since her yard isn't fenced. Just much safer when there is a fence involved...especially when irresponsible people don't contain their dogs and they get loose.
I'm sorry this happened to your neighbor's dog...they may want to invest in an outdoor kennel.

wow that is so sad. Biscuit (my dog) does go outside and get 'tied up' cause she is a brilliant escape artist. However our yard is fenced (she has just found escape routes) so a dog couldn't just run freely into the yard and I check on her every 5 minutes when she is outside. She only goes outside when she wants to sleep in the sun, she never pulls off her leads (I have two soft webbed leads joined together) and she would make sooo much noise if a dog came in the yard I'd be out to see what the commotion was about. When we move to a permanent home if the yard isn't fully Biscuit proof it will be made Biscuit proof so she doesn't have to be tied up again.
