HappyDancer has a spectacular aura aboutHappyDancer has a spectacular aura about

brachycephalic

has anyone had a dog that has suffered from this in one form or another? I have researched it so much because the vet says Penny has a bad case of brachycephalic and it will require some surgery as well as medicines to help her. She can hardly breath most of the time and if she plays at all she starts coughing, weezing, gagging and falling over and just all kinds of stuff...shes so small and it scares the mess out of me to watch her go through this, the vet said it is sort of common in yorkies (web sites say this as well) and I was looking for people who have gone through this and how well it all worked out for them...this is all new to me, she has always had breathing problems, one vet had said asthma...I am scared and worried for her and I just want to learn more about this...any help much appreciated

Okay, can you clarify here a bit? What specific problem is she having?

Brachycephalic is usually used in reference to the 'flat face' breeds, such as the pug. Gumbo (pug) had to have his soft palate trimmed due to the problem and did just fine.

its a narrow wind pipe and narrow nasal passages, she told my mom all kinds of things so I am going to the nextconsultation...the vet said, and alot of the web sites, say this is common in yorkies...the vet said its a little common that they have minor problems just not as common to have them this bad, she coughs, gags, weezes, spazzes out and she falls and faints alot...we have to keep her calm and not play with her to much...I know I am not giving great info here and thats because I was not at the vets with my mom it was just her and so I am going off what she said, I will find out more, I just know that my dog is not doing good right now and that scares me to no end
