I agree with you, tbird. Ask the clinic if they charge an office visit to express the glands or just a charge for that since it doesn't take them long.

The dr KNOWS what he's looking for and what he's doing. If it isn't done correctly and gets messed up you'll have a bill a lot higher than $60 on your hands!

I would call for the fee; if it isn't $60 next time I would take him back in a month or so and see just how quickly his fill up. That's what will make a big difference. Some dogs need to be cleaned as often as every 2 weeks, some dogs hardly ever. But it is awfully uncomfortable for him if they are full and he can't let you know!!

I know this thread is from a long time ago, but I just wanted to mention to you tbird that my vet only charges 13 bucks to get Hars done. And no office fee since its so quick!

I have to take Wallis pretty frequently because hers fill up quickly- and I can tell how uncomfortable she is by the way she acts. She also has some sort of "growth" on one side of hers. She started out with a "growth" on the other side then suddenly went through this ordeal when we thought her anal glad had ruptured. When we had her teeth cleaned last time the dr realized that the one on the other side was anal glad material that had got "stuck" and from feeling it gave the impression of a tumor, etc. It is there again but given the answer from last time I don't worry about it too much. I just hope for her sake we don't have to go through the whole thing of thinking we have a ruptured gland, etc. again.

The joys of a pure-bred dog, huh? That's what lots of people think.
