Colleen is home from her first dip!

She did very well, as did my checking account.

Colleen was completely shaved, tail and all, except for the fur on her ears. Her back is a little red from minor irritation from the dip, but she doesn't have nearly as many sores as I thought she did.

The vet gave her a mild sedative because she was very nervous and they didn't want her to squirm too much while they were trying to shave her. Little Miss I-Hate-Baths was very well behaved as they bathed her with the dip. About an hour after she got the dip, she got a little woozy, but had NO other side effects! I am so happy that the dip didn't make her too sick.

For the cost:
shave $65
bath $22
medication $6.50 (how in the world did he get it so cheap?!?)
one night of boarding that I was accidently charged $19.50 (They put it back as a credit on my account there so I will use it next week when she goes for her second dip).

The total that I paid today: $113.

The total for all future dips (unless her fur grows back and she needs to be shaved again) should be $28.50 if the prices don't change.

I am so happy that the dip was kind to her and that it didn't cost a whole lot. Here's to hoping she gets better quickly!

lol, she looks very naked, and very funny because they left her long ear fluff. I took a few pics, so I'll try and load them on the computer tomorrow and post them.

One small problem that we noticed last night. Now that she is naked, when she scratches her itches, she has no fur to protect her skin. She is redder now than she was when she got home because she won't stop scratching. I'm not sure if I can put hydrocortizone cream on it or that would interact with the dip. I'm going to call the vet and ask.

Can you ask them if it would be ok to put clothes on her? Maybe you could fashion an old T-Shirt into a shirt for her... that would at least give her a layer of protection.

He said it's okay to use hydrocortizone cream and to give her 3 benadryl tablets up to 3 times a day.

Lucas' mom gave us a doggy sweater that she bought for her dog, but it wound up being way to big for him. I think it'll fit her, so I'll give that a try as well. Lucas and I are both on the big side, so she'd probably be falling out of our t-shirts. If the sweater seems to warm, I'll give it a try, though. I hadn't thought of using one of our shirts, so thank you for the suggestion.

You could even go to a Goodwill or thriftstore and buy a couple cheap T-shirts from the kids department that would fit....

I feel so horrible for your baby .... poor little thing ... from everything I have read about mange it is not fun for owner or the dog.... fingers are crossed that this treatment will work quickly for her.

I hope she is feeling better soon. It is good she has such a wonderful mommy and daddy to take care of her.
I guess living in Louisiana you don't need to worry about her getting to cold being naked. Keep us posted and post those pictures!
