Yeah, we thought that was odd, too.

In Louisiana, it is so hot and humid that a dog with a coat as thick and full as a collie would suffer badly in the heat. Hence why she must be an indoor dog. I wonder if the shelter knows that she is being kept outside now. Tippy has only been off of mange treatment for 3 weeks, so her coat is still very, very short. Hopefully that means that she isn't suffering in the heat too much.

Lucas' mom's friend has an american eskimo dog who doesn't handle the climate here very well, even when he is inside in the air conditioning. If she decides not to adopt Tippy to us, I hope that she adopts her to someone who will keep her indoors before her coat starts to grow back in more. Apparently, the collie rescue of south louisiana has offered to help her find a home for Tippy. They know collies well, so if they get her, I'm sure she will be kept indoors.

*Impatiently waiting for the phone call to find out whether or not we can have her*

wow. she is a really pretty dog. I hope you can get her and give her the home she deserves. There is nothing wrong with living in a trailer. It's a great way to start off. You can get one for cheap and then work towards saving money to move into a house or whatever. That's what Im doing. Just because you live in a trailer doesn't mean you are trash and don't know how to take care of animals. Good luck on getting Tippy. I know you will give her a great home.

I just got the phone call!!

On Thursday, I will be Tippy's new mommy!!!!!

I'm so excited.

Now I just have to hope she doesn't change her mind when she sees the 'no dogs' sign when she comes to drop her off. I've decided to just tell her I never remember it's there because no one obey's it anyways.

lol, looking at the pics again, I think you're right about the bandana. I have to go to PetSmart this weekend and I may pick her up one. I have a brush for Ein, but I need other types of brushes/combs for Tippy. I've been reading a lot of write-ups that I have found on how to groom a collie, and I'm going to take the most user friendly one with me to make sure I get the proper supplies. I need to get another retratractable leash and pretty collar, too. And more toys now that we will have three doggies.

I personally dont think collies are too hard to groom, but since i do it nearly every day its like second nature to me now. Feel free to ask me any quesions. If i cannot answer them, Larry and Carmen can!

Is the drop-off time pre-arranged? Is the No Dogs sign very conspicuous? If you had some friends, say having a little picnic, in the general area of the sign when she's going past would that draw attention away from or to the sign? If it's on a lower fence post, someone could even casually throw a shirt over it while playing frisbee or something. I don't know they layout at all, but maybe you can avoid her even seeing the sign.

I figure it will probably take a long time at first, just until I get used to it, but it doesn't sound like it is difficult.

Her hair is very short now, so it means that the first few brushings should be pretty easy. I did notice when we met her that she has a couple of areas that felt like they might be getting a tad matted, so I'm going to make sure to brush her the day after we get her.

She may need a bath, too. It is raining today and her foster mom mentioned that she feels bad leaving her in the rain, but can't have her inside all day while she is gone at work. Unless she bathes Tippy before bringing her to us, I will bathe her the day after we get her, too. I don't want her first night with us to be too stressful, so I am just going to let her settle in and not bother her too much. Since she is used to sleeping in a pen outside, I am thinking about having her sleep in a kennel the first few nights until she is more comfortable.

I do have one grooming question for you:
Since I've never had a girl dog before, I am thinking that it might be nice to pretty her up from time to time. Is it possible to put bows in a collies "hair"? Do they come out easily (and do they stay in until you take them out), or does it cause mats because collie hair is so long? I have not decided for sure if I would do it or not. I'm more asking just in case.

I am supposed to call her Thursday morning to give directions and set a time. I am debating whether or not to call and see if we can change it to Saturday. If she insists on talking to the landlords, they are almost never home on weekends. If she wants to talk to them, we can't have Tippy. They won't give permission. (We are seriously looking at buying our own land, so hopefully we won't live there long). If she talks to them, not only can we not have Tippy, but we may get in hot water with them (the husband is VERY nice, but the wife acts a dictator. Seriously.) If they are not home, they we can say "Never mind, they won't give permission. When we buy our land, we'll call you and see if you still have Tippy." without her talking to them.

The sign is pretty big, so I'm not sure if we can cover it without someone noticing or not. The writing is light, as it is an old sign. I am going to take a look at it when I drive by tonight. It's kinda high up, and if the headlights of the car don't light it up well, then night time would be a good time to have her drop off Tippy. She won't be LOOKING for the sign, so if we can have her come by at the time when it is least obvious, she may never notice.

LOL! I have never tried, and i have never imagined bows in a collies hair! I dont see why it would cause mats as long as you are careful.
I know some tricks to get that coat to grow lots faster and fill out onced she is settled in.

Thanks for being so supportive everyone.

I must admit that I was expecting at least one person to say "If the sign says 'no dogs' maybe you shouldn't get her. I wouldn't have been offended.

I think what bothers me the most about the policy is the fact that the landlords own the land, but we own the trailer. If they don't want the dogs running loose and they don't want outside dogs (which are the 2 reasons they have the policy), then give one warning for an offense, then evict the offender. If the dogs are indoor dogs, how is it up to someone else to decide whether or not we can have them in a house that we bought and own?

Hence the reason we are seriously looking at buying our own land. On a major plus side, I had my 90 day review at my new job yesterday and got more than double what I was expecting for my raise. Makes it even that much easier to consider staying in Louisiana long enough to make it worth buying our own land.

we dealt with the same thing when we lived in a park. our land lords went so far as to try to tell us how many indoor cats we could have. we didn't listen very well though cause we had one extra and refused to get rid of it. it was our house. so i sympathize with you. i hope it all works out

She is a beauty. I love that long slender face. wooohooo pretty girl. Hope it works out. I adopted a dog to a women in a trailer home. She told me that they were allowed up to two small dogs. She owned her unit. It was pretty nice too. I want one. LOL

The trailer court I live in has the same rules. 2 animals. But I own my trailer and rent the land so before I signed the lease I asked the manager about getting another cat because Millie was extremely overally attached to shadow. I mean she walked around screaming at the top of her lungs when he went out to the bathroom. I don't think they should be able to tell you how many INSIDE animals you can own if you own the trailer. I guess they do it because of all of the abandoned animals left behind when someone moves. I dunno.

Congrats on the raise though!!! That has to be a great feeling knowing that you did so well that you got such a huge raise. I'm sure you will have no problems getting Tippy.
