Crying

My little yorkie Penny is crate trained and has been since she was 7 weeks old...she is now 6 and has started a horrible habbit of crying to get out...the problem is she gets her self so worked up it effects her breathing, we are trying to figure out why now...we are going to call the vets and see if there is anything medical, but I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts or suggestions, I am about in tears listening to her cry all the time now

I'm sorry to hear Penny is getting upset, it's heartbreaking to hear your baby cry. I have Elvis's crate door open when we are home & he can come & go in it as he pleases. He is in a closed crate when we go out.

Do you keep her in a closed crate even when you are home?
If Penny can speak on command, maybe put her in the crate, close the door then ask her to speak to get out.
Give her a little treat from me & Elvis Lee.

She is free all day...she only goes in the crate at night...both small dogs sleep in their own crates and have for 6 years, Penny unfortunatly if left out all night goes to the restroom on the carpet thats why she is ctrated at night...but the last 3 nights she has cried till I have taken her out and calmed her down, last night we let her cry, I monitored her breathing, after 2 hours she was fine and went to sleep, the vet after seeing her today said she was fine just spoiled...told me to let her cry and figure it out, its just so hard on me to listen to her, to not hold her, but for any type of sleep I need to get her re used to it...ugh its so hard

poor Penny. I guess dogs have to re-learn behaviors sometimes? Good to know since EL is almost a year old & I think he's so smart & well behaved. I'm sure he'll end up proving me wrong. LOL
I hope Penny re-learns her good nite time crate behavior very quickly.

Angelnstuff will become famous soon enough
did she spend a night out of her crate or something? with allie, if we spoil her one day and let her sleep in our bed, she will whine a bit the next night, wanting to come back in our bed. Good luck with retraining, i know how hard it is to listen to them cry, but sometimes its for the best. Good luck (can always invest in some earplugs if it gets too much for you)

she was weezing pretty loud one night so we took her out and cuddled her and spoiled her and then the next night she did a small weezing thing so once again we took her out, so with those 2 nights she has decided not to sleep in her crate...last night she did reall good till 3 in the morning, and for the first time in 5 years she had an accident in her cage and barked till we checked and so we cleaned it up and she went back in till it was light enough out to let her go out and play with the other dogs lol...she is the kind of dog where if you mess up her schedule it takes her days to get back to normal, she is so set in her ways lol

Belle pulls that every once in a while. Both of mine sleep in their crates. Frankie prefers it and Belle is not trustworthy enough. When she pulls it I will take her out to go potty and then she is right back in her kennel. She often tries to prolong the potty so sometimes I have to pick her up and bring her in.

Well some yorkies have a really hard time holding their bladder, maybe she really needs to go. Try taking her out to potty when she crys like that and see if thats it. I know a couple gals that keep peepads down always because yorkies have such tiny bladders they can't always hold it till she gets home etc.

when she throws her fits the first thing we do is take her out...she will not go, she just sits at our feet and cries...we can't leave her alone at night because the owls look at her like she would taste good (I doubt that she is small enough for them but still scares me) she is not put in her crate till nearly 11 at night, we do the whole play thing, potty breaks and everything, but lately she just doesn't want to be in the crate...last night though she finally went the whole night (11-5) with no crying...we start our day at 5 so first thing all dogs go out...they have the run of both the house and yard all day and then at night Lady says its her bed time at 10 and goes to her crate on her own and then we spend a little one on one time with Penny and put her to sleep...it has just been so hard on me letting her cry...I did 1 night and the rest of the time I just couldn't...I am such a sucker for my doggies...but if last night continues she may be back on her schedule...heres to hoping

I would treat her like a new puppy being trained to stay in her crate and place and old tshirt or something that smells of you in there for her to snuggle with. Goodluck

Sadly, I would take her to bed with me I'm a sucker too, when I got Lilly she stayed in her crate one night then straight to my bed. LOL
