Dachshund's with Back Injures

I am a proudly new owner of a Dachshund...she is the love of my life. However, I know that she could have some major health issues, such as a back injury. You see many Dachshunds in wheel chairs. My doxie runs around all the time and she is constantly trying to get into things. I was wondering, has anyone out there experienced a back injury of a Dachshund? What are things I should be stopping her from doing? What are some signs of a back injury?

Awwwww you have a dachshund! How old is she? I have 2 doxies, Kahlua (he is almost 3) and Penny (2).

There are some things you can do to make it easier for her and try to prevent any possible injury. They have ramps you can get for your dachshunds, we don't have one of these yet, but my boyfriend and I are talking about getting one in the near future. Here is a great website that shows many different kinds.

http://www.dachsie.org/store/ramps/

They are good for furniture and beds, etc. As hard as it is, try not to let her take big jumps off couches and beds. If you don't have a ramp, you can do what we did, we had big pillows leading up to the couch when they were puppies to make it easier to get up and down. We also had a bean bag chair at the foot of our bed.

I also worry about stairs. We don't have stairs in our house, but my parents house has stairs. They do pretty good with them, but I get worried when Penny comes barreling down them. She thinks she is super doxie sometimes!

I look forward to seeing pictures of your little girl!

Hi!!!
Another doxie lover! How awesome! Anyway, I agree with Jackie (kittygurl). It is hard to keep them from jumping but if I can't, I try to put something that makes it look too high in their way so they won't jump also. My two run so fast sometimes, I worry that will get them hurt too. Good luck with your baby!
