Dont they have a emergency service. My vet has one for after hours and you can call for info...??

You call the emergency number- they give you another number to call- in Birmingham- and no, I am not keen to talk to some newby vet that got stuck with the night shift. I've dealt with them before and they are not very helpful. Plus it is hardly an emergency What if he is on the phone with me while someone with a real emergncy can't get through?

I did call the vet this morning though. As I expected, they have no idea what I am talking about. I can bring her in if I want, but he's out on a call and why don't I just call back after 1 or 2 and see if he is going to be about to see you. Same as always.

You're right of course, Jenna, it was not an emergency. I wouldn't call the Emergency line for that either.
I would want to find out for sure what it is though. In fact, I am really anxious to know so if you get a hold of him, let us know

I did finally talk to the vet today. It took all day to get him to return my call. After much going on and on about the twin calves he had just delivered (he also delivered twins to one of my dad's hefers a few weeks back, so thought I was very interested in cows?), he did finally consent, though only after much prompting on my end, that if he had used a thick filament to expect it to take up to six months or so to dissolve completely- which was actual information, at least- and that he makes really good knots so it's not going to tear loose or anything like that. That was the clearest answer I could get out of him. Kind of gave me a mental image of him during surgery looking at spools of thread and trying to decide which color he wanted to use next, but it was an answer at least.

At any rate, I intend to keep an eye on the spots- and if there is any change in them (swelling or redness, etc) I will take her in. Otherwise, I prefer to ask the vet that listens in a few weeks when Pagan goes for boosters.

He's not really a bad vet, he is just a little too... needing the attention himself, I guess is the best way to explain it. He probably is very popular with a lot of people for his chitchatty ways, but I prefer the focus to be on the animal.

Let's hope that is all it is and it doesn't get red or irritated. We had three different vets for various animals and it always amazed me at the differences between their practices. I always saved my questions for the ones who would actually listen and take the time. I hate those medical personnel who are all about themselves grrr!.

That sounds about right. Just like with Kali. Depending on the weight of your dog, that will determine what poundage size monofilament he used. And yes, they do come on spools Although at our clinic they are cut to specific length and put in to soak in chlorhexadine solution for disinfection and sterilization.

Had to laugh at this part. Pagan is 11lbs. Kind of think maybe he was being over cautious? LOL

Most likely used the 10 lb one...possibly the 15. The poundage refers to how much weight it will hold before breaking. The stuff does have to be strong in order to hold everything together while it heals. I'm pretty sure what you are feeling are the knots at the ends. It's better to be safe than sorry so the actual knots have to be tied tight so they don't unravel.
