my pom has attacked people, mainly me but still. He does give warnings before going after someone. I don't have a beware of dog sign because no one seems to bother any of my dogs, though I have to be careful when people come up to the car, especially if when the people at drive thrus hand you the food. One of my shih tzus tried to climb in the window of the place cause he wanted to be held and my pom went balistic and was about ready to rip the guys arm off.

We don't have a sign, but have been thinking about it. When we just got one of our dogs, she managed to escape our fenced yard. We have another dog and did not know our new rescue was dog aggressive. Our neighbor was walking her dog and our rescue attached her dog and took off about 1/3rd of her dog's ear flap. The woman had the leash wrapped around her hand and ended up with a burse on her hand. My sister took her to the hospital to check out her injury. After the woman got back home she called the hospital and ammended her story, and told them that the bruse was from a dog bite. We were sued and ended up settling out of court. The lawyer said that if there were any possibility that woman really got bit, the judgment would go in her favor. That is my sad story.

On a lighter note, I have heard of people that have put up "Beware of Dog" signs with motion activated recorders that play a dog barking to discourage break-ins. I know of nobody that has done this and wonder if it is someone's joke.

I have seen this done. Mostly in apartment complexes.

No Beware of Dog sign for us. I think the Security system sign is enough of a deterrent in our neighborhood.

weve never had beware of dog signs but living in the city im considering it as i live right next to a street that is big for prostitution, drug dealing and other seedy dealings. Even though my dog is a tiny miniature poodle our neighbors dog is a rottie pitbull mix. they do really good with their dog but they have it trained to growl at people at night when walking(The girlfriend is scared of getting mugged at night). but really the dog is a big sweetie.

i don't have a beware sign anymore.

my parents used to put one for like a month just to tell visitors that we have a dog so they would be aware of it and be careful though my dog never did bite anyone.

but i told my parents that the sign made my dog look bad so we removed it

look at this video, cute puppies and kittens....
just look for it in youtube.... puppies and kittens - dvd/blu-ray - long

Having a beware of dog sign doesn't usually stop you from a lawsuit and it makes your dog/dogs look bad, especially to the police. They sometimes will shoot animals that they think are bad. Or they can have AC pick them up. That is happening a lot lately. Having the signs up can be dangerous for your pets too. Our dogs don't bite. They never have. They are big breed dogs. If the police are around I keep them in the house. I don't take a chance. I have read lately where police shot innocent dogs when they didn't have a reason. Lately they have started tasering innocent dogs. Witnesses say the dogs didn't do anything to the officers. Some were even backing away or running away from the officers. There was an incident lately where police went into a house where they thought drugs were delivered. They shot a Lab as they broke into the house. The house belonged to a city official. The dog didn't have a chance. The other Lab in the house was running to another room away from the officers and they shot and killed it too.

My beware of dogs signs are mainly so people know my dogs are there and that jumping the fence into my yard is probably not a good idea, we have many many police incidences here in my neighborhood and the police know my dogs well, if they feel they need to search yards they are always nice enough to come to my door and they even come in while I put my babies away to insure if there is a person in the yard they won't come in. My dogs are almost never ever left unattended outside, but there are those rare moments when you have to go in for the phone or something, do I think my dogs would bite? yes I do given certain circumstances, they are all amazingly sweet and goofy, they are pure love, but they are also pretty concious of keeping us safe when we are in the yard, out front the dogs would love anyone, but if we are all sitting in the back yard and someone comes over the fence (not through the gate) they would and have done the warning charge and once when a man with a metal pipe tried coming over Lieia got his shoe...so I have the signs not to warn of my dogs but to try and avoid any run ins that could result in anyone getting hurt, them or my dogs...

Our car and garage were recently broken into, funny thing is they stole the beware of dog sign off the fence as well...sad thing is we were in the house asleep when it happend, our garage is part of the house so it was a very close call...so even with signs meant to scare people, people will still do what they want
