I'd never put clothes on my Golden or my Brittany - I put tee-shirts on them once for a silly picture and they didn't mind at all. They sat for the pictures very happily and they weren't uncomfortable - had they been - I would have removed the shirts right away. They have different temperaments than my tiny Yorkie. They are just not "dress up dogs".

On the other hand - my 3 pound Yorkie? She struts around like a Princess loving it - honest! Like Jodi - I don't feel the need to put pajamas or a sweater on her during the summer, it's so, so hot out and not nescessary. My dogs are my kids and I love them with all my heart and would do anything for them. They are a very special part of my family. I'd never dress them up to mock, degrade or laugh at them. Having a good fun giggle *with* your pet though is not cruel, it's fun and they enjoy the attention. - IMO Plus, at 3 pounds, when it's chilly, drafty or she is damp, she just doesn't have enough body fat to keep warm. The clothing serves a purpose - as well as being fun

I certainly agree with you on this Deja. My furbabies just love all of the attention. They love any attention we give them, and they are hams when it comes to posing for pictures too. They love their pictures taken Because they know it's all about them, and the attention and love you are showing to them alone

Apparently I have offended someone by voicing my opinion on dressing up pets. I do sincerely apologize if I came off "holier than thou," however, that was not my feeling, nor do I see this "attitude" anywhere in my brief words. I DO think it's degrading to treat pets this way. Dressing up an animal to laugh at them is wrong. I won't treat my babies that way.

Giving me negative points because I hit a nerve and you feel guilty for the way you, whoever you are, treat your pet(s) is pathetic. Shame on you.

I'm leaving this place. I gave it a shot. I had my doubts about it, what with all these anonymous "points." I wondered how long before it was abused. I wasn't even here two weeks. I won't play popularity games. I didn't play them in high school and I certainly won't play them now.

I will stand by my opinion that dressing up one's pets to laugh at them is degrading and wrong. They were not placed on earth for our amusement. If you do it for other reasons, kudos to you. Many folks dress up their pets to laugh at them. I won't. They mean more to me than that.

Fare thee well, all.

Roz, I am so sorry that someone gave you negative points for voicing your opinion. You have every right to feel and think the way you do. I am sorry if anything I said in response to this thread caused you to think I was trying to tell you that your opionion is wrong.

Everyone here is entitled to their opinions and feelings and we all differ in the way we think. That is what makes PT a diverse environment with lots of room to express yourself.

Again, I apologize if my response caused you to feel that you want to leave PT - honestly, that wasn't my intention at all.

You are certainly entitled to your opinions the same way as every member here.

Roz, I'm sorry someone gave you a negative reputation point because of simply stating how you feel. You fully are entitled to your opinion like everyone else.

Please, please don't make that a reason for you to leave PT! Also, I personally don't think there was a thing wrong with your post someone gave you that point for, either. All you did was state your opinion why you chose not to dress your dogs and I didn't find it offensive in the least. This is a wonderful place and we are glad you are here, girl!

I have sweaters for my doggies when it gets too cold. When I occasionally put them on, it's mainly for my doxies, b/c they don't have much fur in the winter to keep them warm. Jasmine, my papillon, already has a thick coat, though! But, then again it is FL, so it doesn't get so, so cold here. I still can't imagine what they would do in snow!

Roz honestly you did nto have a holier than thou attitude at all in your post! you expressed your opinion. I too got a negative reputation point the other day which I thought was a bit out of line and I posted about it in the appropriate thread. Both of our negative points are grey which means that it is a newbie who hasn't been here long enough for their points to count that has done it (I only learnt this after my negative reputation point) I don't know who is doing it but I think it must be someone that is here simply to cause trouble....I wonder if Jade would be able to suss it out and see if it is the same person?
All of the true users here don't abuse the reputation system and when it was started it was stated that it was not for a popularity contest!!! It's not the idea of it.....the whole idea is to be able to give each other anonymous feedback on whether we think a post may be offensive.....and also to thank people for great advice etc! It is not to put people down (which my reputation point did that to me and I was pretty peeved about it) and whoever is abusing the system will get put in their place shortly I'm sure!! don't leave because of them. There will always be trolls on the net, it can't be helped....but the majority of us here are great people and are not trolls at all!!!!

Deja,

No. I agreed with your post, especially the "My dogs are my kids and I love them with all my heart and would do anything for them. They are a very special part of my family. I'd never dress them up to mock, degrade or laugh at them. Having a good fun giggle *with* your pet though is not cruel, it's fun and they enjoy the attention. - IMO" part. It sums up how I feel, minus what you already know from previous posts anyway.

Deja, Kittygurl823 and RSBunny,
Thank you for your words. I appreciate what each of you has said. I think I will give these forums a more fair try. The negative feedback was "the straw that broke the camel's back," as they say, since I am having a bad day...right down to having Houdini scratch me just because I petted her. -.-

(Well, most dogs. I can understand if you have a dog that cannot handle cold and it's -30 outside, but that is a different circumstance. )

But there is a legit reason for a dog to wear a sweater (cold like you said)
But there is no reason why I should have a tail

Only time my dog sees clothes is in winter time, sweater to keep him healthy and warm when he has to go outside.

Dogbert is getting his picture taken on the 23rd of July, we're buying him a yellow raincoat to get his pic taken in, along with a blue umbrella, and a little rubber ducky toy It'll be so cute!

while i understand dressing them up in a coat in the winter in michigan i think that it is just sad when owners do that to their pets. i say this because i have pictures of the things that my mother used to dress me up in, thinking that it was cute, and cringe (p.s. i hate 80's clothing). so dressing a otherwise cool dog in antlers and whatever other horrid outfits you have just makes me think of those days when i was in the same antler and reindeer costume.
