Dogs need to exercise their mind.
If your dog doesn't get mental stimulation he will be bored, and this can lead to behavior problems. Dogs that are tired physically and mentally are happy dogs, and are more likely to sleep when you're away from them — rather than get into trouble. Teaching your dog new commands and reviewing commands he already knows will keep his mind exercised. Puzzle toys will also give his mind a workout, and keep him happily occupied for hours.
