Down Command?

Does anyone have any ideas for teaching the down command? We're having a bit of trouble teaching my puppy the command. Any help is greatly appreciated.

First have him sit. Then get a treat between your thumb and forefinger with your palm facing the floor. Put it close to his nose then slowly lower you hand to the floor, sometimes you have to move it out a little bit. when he lays down say "down" or whatever word you choose and give him the treat. It might take a bit of practice but Im sure he'll get it.
