Dutchy's foot (kinda gross) - Paw Talk

Dutchy went to get his bandages removed yesterday. After the vet tech took them off and cleaned the wounds (OMG) she realized, there were no large E collars because they'd been back-ordered. Doc radioed in from his large animal call to ask how they looked, and said to just rewrap them and come back Thursday - he didn't want Dutchy licking them too much. Well, her wrap job left a lot to be desired ... by 7 o'clock the one had slipped down, so the poor guy had this big flappy thing hanging off his foot. So, I went to Walmart, got some stuff, and wrapped it myself. He had it ripped off this morning

So, still half asleep, I ran up to work (my day off) and my boss hunted around till she found me an E collar (Gosh, I love that woman). I left the one bandage on, but I'm just leaving the other un-wrapped. So here's his footie - in this one, you can see where it degloved a bit. His nails are all crooked because they're loose in the nail beds.

Oh! Bless his heart! Poor Dutchy... He looks so upset in the last picture. How long will he have to have the E collar on?

I hope he heals quickly....give him kisses from me!

I just called the vet - they were just about to call me because the E collars came in. She said to go ahead and unwrap the other one ... brace yourselves for this one ... the worst on this foot is actually where he has a puncture wound on the bottom between his pads. That gross looking nail isn't a nail - just the quik ...

My poor, sweet baby boy ... I hope this heals up soon for him. He still goes back Thursday afternoon for a check up.

That has to be major painful!! Poor baby! That exposed quik made me quiver!! I hope he feels better soon! Will his nail grow back?? I sure hope so!

Poor baby, huh ? I can't even imagine how those nails must feel ! They said they may fall out, or the nail beds may heal around them. The exposed quik should grow a new nail around it.

I messed with that first pic to get the shadow out - and it looks much better than it really is ... here's the original picture. You can kinda see better why this is the foot that doc's most concerned about ...
