ear mites?
I think my dog got ear mites when he was at the groomer last week. The poor guy has the one side of his face itched raw in 2 days. I got him some over the counter stuff to try because he has all the symptoms (dirty wax in the ear that wasn't there before, shaking the head, scratching his face and ear) and I only have $5 in my checking account until Friday. I'm also cleaning the sore area daily and putting antimicrobial cream on it several times a day.
The main thing I want to know is if this is a common thing and if I should call the groomer and let them know. I know there were at least 3 other dogs there at the same time that he was there. Those were just the ones that they brought out while I was waiting for shadow. I've taken him there several times and never had this problem. What other ways can he get ear mites?

Ear mites look like coffee grounds. It can spread to the face and paws. Cats are more prone to ear mites than dogs. Do you know for sure if the other dogs that were there the same day had ear mites? What kind of product are you using?

I don't know. All i know is that he has a dark brown gross looking wax in his ear like he did last time he had ear mites, he is shaking his head a lot and scratching at his one ear. The only drops wal-mart had were hartz ear mite treatment. I don't like hartz but I wanted anything to make him feel better. I'm gonna call the vet when I get home today because I have all day off tomorrow so hopefully they will let me pay them on monday after my check has gone through.

if it is ear mites you can use mineral oil, it work really good. i used it on my puppy when she had ear mites. you just put some on a paper towel and wipe it down in your puppies ear, it works good. just keep doing that untill the mites go away.

i got scared and called the vet this morning because his face was really bad....They wanted me to bring him in right away but I had to go to work so my friend took him. They just called (at 2:30...he was taken in at 10:15) and he is ready to come home. He has a mild wet eczema or something like that and possibly a mild allergic reaction to something. They said that if he had ear mites they are gone now, but they think all that gunk was from an irritation from being groomed. I'm not going to have student groomers groom him anymore. I'll add more when I get back from picking him up. It's going to cost me $130 so much for making it until the next paycheck. Luckily they will hold my check until tomorrow when my check is officially through to my bank account.

In other words....he has a REALLY REALLY NASTY hot spot on the left side of his face. It looks so bad now that they shaved all the fur away. I'm not going to post pictures because it is really gross, but he is home and will be hopefully doing better soon. I have ointment to put on the spots and they gave him an allergy shot.

Thanks. I will. I just can't believe it was hidden so well by his fur I feel so guilty.
