Ein has a boo boo
Ein has mild outdoor allergies and takes 1teaspoon of children's benadryl, as needed. All of a sudden, he seems to have had a bad allergy attack-worse than any I have seen on him before. He has a rash and some hair loss on the inside of his elbow. I hate telling him 'no' for licking his leg because I know it is bothering him. Poor thing.
I left a message for my fave vet to call me. He's never needed more than one dose of benadryl in a 24 hour period (his allergies are very mild, and he doesn't spend much time outside), so I am going to ask how often he can have the benadryl and whether or not it is safe to temporarily increase his dose.
Please think of Ein. He looks so sad.

See if he can have some benedryl cream on the spot that is bothering him- it wouldn't make him sleepy like extra doses of benedryl liquid. Hope he feels better!

I had a message on my answering machine Sat morning when I woke up saying that the vet had a prescription ready for him-the same one he gave Tucker when Tucker was chewing on his feet real bad. Apparently, I slept through the phone ringing. It was too late to go and pick it up, but Tucker never used all of his, so I went online to the website for the drug for dosing info. I didn't have enough to give 2 doses for yesterday and today like he should have had, but I was able to give him one dose yesteday and one today. I'll pick up his meds tomorrow.
I know allergies can be worse in the fall because of pollen around here, but this also happened the day after I gave Ein a bath with a shampoo I haven't used since he was a puppy. I'm not sure if he may have reacted to the shampoo or if it is his normal allergies.
I went to Petco and got some doggy itch cream and some bitter apple. He still licks it every now and then, but seems to be doing better.

His skin is healing nicely. I picked up some temaril p for him yesterday (the stuff that made Tucker pee constantly) and it seems to be healing well. eta: we are still using the doggy hydrocortizone cream as well.
I made the mistake of asking how much it would cost for allergy testing, so we can pinpoint exactly what it is he's allergic to. $150 for the blood test plus $100 for the serum. She didn't say, but I'm guessing $35-50 for the actual appointment with the vet, on top of that. We know he has outdoor allergies, I just wanted testing to rule out any food allergies, as well, just for peace of mind. For $300, I think we'll skip it.
