Question

I have a 8 month old English bulldog and she keeps getting these sores on her belly and I dont know what to put on them. I have switched from dog shampoos to baby shampoo and dog medicated sulfadene shampoo but she still has these sores. I have also applies stuff for hot spots and cortisone cream. Any recommendations?
Thanks for any input you can provide.

Have you taken her to the vet and asked them what you should do? I know that English Bulldogs are prone to skin conditions it is possible that this is one flaring up.

Sorry I don't have any home remedies to give you. If you haven;t been to the vet yet please take her in to make sure this isn't something more serious like the beginnings of mange (pretty common in bulldogs).

As a little side note please only use dog shampoo on your dog unless otherwise directed by your Vetrinarian... dog shampoo is made for dogs because they have a different PH system than humans.

I hope your puppy gets better soon... I love English Bulldogs they are SOOOO cute

No I havent taken her to the Vet, it seems like she gets these places then they go away a day or so then come back. Could it possibly be just bug bites from when she goes outside to do her "business"? I'm not very familiar with the mange but I will research to see what causes this and if this may be her problem if unresolved I will have her at the Vet in a week.

Thanks for your idea on what it could be.

My doberman was getting sores on her belly too. I took her to the vet and she gave me some meds for her, she said it was just bug bites. What do the sores look like?

They are just red bumps but sometime they have pus in them but they come and go. She also gets them under her arms and vagina area. I'm going to take her to the vet if they seem to worsen any at all.

We raised English bulls when I was growing up. Boy what a life with a bunch of these darlins running around LOL. Wonderful personalities to fit the mug that's for sure. It most likely could be bug bites but pay attention to if they are near any "folds" of her skin such as when she's laying down etc. As they do tend to get dermatitis along with skin sensitivities and also can suffer from allergies not only food allergies but contact allergies. Pay attention to the area she goes to do her business at....is it just a nice grassy area or are there lawn chemicals used, etc. Surprisingly we had one that was allergic to the lawn treatment my mom was having put on the grass so we had to cease using it. Also we have had them with corn allergies so had to pay attention to what was in thier kibble. But overall I would still take her to the vet as thier immune systems are not the best either and it's best to catch things ahead of time rather than later.

Just a grassy area no chemicals are being used. I'm thinking it may be just the bugs biting her, but like I said if it does tend to worsen in any way I will get her to the Vet. Thanks for the advice...

I do however have another question that maybe someone could advise me on.
She has a tight tail that is where the nub goes inward instead of down or to the side. I am having a hard time keeping it clean, any suggestions? I talked to the Vet and they said Peroxide and medicated powders which I am using but my problem is getting under it to clean it because it causes her discomfort, No infection or anything she just perfers for me NOT to do it...lol...I need a better approach to this situation that won't hurt her or make me feel like a bad Mommy...

Thanks!
I like this forum..........

For washing I used to use a bulb syringe (like they use for babies noses) just to sort of flush it out that way I didnt have to get in and really probe around tugging around thier tail as they do hate that. There isnt really any other way to get the powder on either. We also mixed the peroxide 1/2 with water as straight peroxide can be caustic to tissue.

It's possible you could use a dry one also to apply the powder? An ear syringe has a more narrow and longer opening/applicator than the nasal syringe does. It may give more control and comfort. Just check the ear wash section of the pharmacy or the baby section. Also try a tiny bit of tea tree oil on the dermatitis or bug bites. I'd love to see a pic of her. The one I was raised with primarily who stayed in our home his entire life we called "Scutter" although on his papers his documented name was "Nobody Loves Me" lol. But now and then he liked to escape and when calling his name out loud Scutter just seemed more appropriate LOL.

Well, I would post a pic of her but I'm new here and dont know how.
I will buy those things you recommended and see if they work. If you can tell me how to post a pic here I will do that...lol....
She is full blooded but everyone thinks shes a french because she keeps her ears up all the time...Never could figure out to make her stop doing that..lol...
Thanks for the recommendations, her rash is gone and I hope it will stay gone this time. I didnt put anything on it just left it alone and I'm not gonna give her the usual Sunday night baths either, maybe every other Sunday UNLESS she starts stinking then its bathtime...

You need a host such as www.photobucket.com (free). Once you have a pic then you can upload it here. While you are in the "reply" box to the top there are small icons. The one that looks like a postcard, click that and a little window will pop up and just put your url to the photo there then click ok. It should come up if you entered it properly. I can understand the ears but there's no denying the "mugs" on an english bull even comparative to other types. Mine use to think he could swim also and would be line for the nieghbors pool when he got the chance. Several rescue missions there lol. Was a good dog but would take off running like a shot if he got the chance. I always wondered how those little legs could get them so far so fast.

I bought some of that Tea tree oil...Now she stinks...LOL....I noticed she was broke out again today so I got some. Well, I went to that site to get an URL so Im gonna give it a try to see if it works. Thanks...

Oh I woke up this morning and she had a eye problem (like cherry eye, her sister had it). I almost cried! I talked to the the mommy of her sister and she said to take my pinky and push it back in to the corner of her eye which I did with good results so far...I hope this isnt gonna turn into something bad with her. I never realized how high maintenance these dogs are but she is worth every bit of it.
Emily never tried to run from me she walks right beside me while we are outside thank goodness since we live on a road with lots of big trucks and traffic. I have a fenced in back yard she goes to when Im not going out with her so I know she's safe. The only time she runs from me is when I head to the bathroom and say "Emily lets get a bath", she runs into another room, she doesn't like water. She also runs when she sees me coming with a babywipe because she knows its face washing time or belly cleaning time...LOL...These doggies are so very special it seems like they know exactly what you are saying to them.

Well, I'm also including a pic of my "precious" cat she is 4 years old have had her since her mom died when she was 3 weeks old. Now that was something when I had to take her to work just so she could get bottle fed. But I did learn something in all that I didnt know with a cat. I had to wipe her behind with a warm rag to make her do her business because that was what the mom would have done. It was a very good thing I had an employee that knew that or she would be full of it right now...LOL....
