First Experience with an absess

Well I thought I would let you know that I am officially having my first experience with an Absess. Paige has an absess on her shoulder and I am trying to see if any of you have any home remedies or personal experience about your dogs having them? We have already consulted a vet so I am taking steps to care for it already. Just wondering if anyone has any "I wish I would have known this before" advice?

I'm sorry to hear about Paige's abscess
I'm sorry I don't have any advice for you. I'm sure your vet will be your best source of information and his treatment plan will get Paige better real soon.

I'll be sending lots of ~~~get well vibes~~~ to Paige!

Aww, poor little Paige.

I've never had to deal with an abcess but I hope it's healed quickly and she's back to her puppy self. Get well soon Paige!

Dogs and cats take longer to recover from abscesses than other animals. Has your vet put her on antibiotics? She would need a good antibiotic such as Clavamox. Keeping the wound clean should help, but if for some reason it gets worse there is a chance she may need surgery to drain the site, flush it and keep it clean to allow faster healing. They usually put a drain in the site to allow the infection to drain out. How long has she had it? If it pops itself there is no need for surgery as long as you keep it clean and you continue her antibiotics, which I am sure your vet has told you already. Either way, just take his advice and I am sure your doggie will recover soon. If you know how she got it hopefully you can avoid this happening again in the future.

Prayers on the way for your pup!

Yeah we have her on antibiotics and I owe thanks to my Great Dnae for popping it in rough play so there is no need for surgery. He is just having us use Peroxide to keep it clean and open and if it starts to swell up we have to drain it by hand, but so far she is doing well she has had it for about a week and a half but it popped on Sat. night so we drained it several times yesterday and today she hasn't needed it drained so maybe it will just heal up without any problems.
She is doing better and her fever has seemed to break, so she is playing more now and irritating everyone so I wouls say she is doing alot better!
Thanks for the Get well Vibes, we appreciate it.

Colloidial silver is a good natural antibiotic you can use on the wound itself, and goldenseal is excellent for healing sores too! We had a cat many years ago that had a huge abcess on his rump and my mom drained it when it broke and then flushed it with peroxide really well then packed it with a goldenseal/neosporin paste and it healed right up.

Becki- I hadn't thought about using Collodial Silver in it, I give it to my children when they are sick as a immune booster.
I guess I can drop some of that in there after I get done cleaning it.
Thanks for the advice.
Pure- I have been meaning to get pics posted I just haven't gotten a chance to yet, I hope everyone is being very patient!
