Found a Dog

When I came back home this evening coming back from town. I noticed that Ruff(my husband's dog) was end of the moutain with another dog.
At first I thought maybe he came from someone's house from town. But when I got out to put Ruff in the truck I noticed that his ribs were showing and that he was very skinny. I think either someone droped him or he could belong to someone. I tried to get him in the truck to so I could take him some and give him something to eat and drink. But he wouldn't hardly come to me unless I kneeled down. I thought I had him one time but when I started to get up he got lose from me. He seemed like he was really nervous scared of people. Because everytime I tried to pet him he would run or would stand far from me.
I might try walking back down the road or taking the atv and see if I can see him again. I really wanted to bring him back with me. I probably would've even kept him or tried to find him another good home. I think after I eat I'll go back down there maybe take some treats with me. Who knows maybe I'll see him again. I hope so. I really want to help this poor dear. He looked like he was a German Shepard mix. I'll let everyone know how it goes. Or if someone could give me some suggestions?

bring a bowl of dog food(moistened or the "canned" stuff--those seem to have more of an enticing odor). If you do see him, walk close(but not too close), place the bowl on the ground and walk away. If he's hand shy, at least he'll have something to eat. He may even wait til after you've left to eat it. Don't try and grab him up and take him home immediately. He needs some time..........sounds like someone abused him. You may have to do this several evenings in a row before he sees you as someone who won't hurt him. Wait til he approaches you(in a non aggressive manner, of course)--that will show that he's starting to trust you. Not only is he obviously starving, but he might also be sick; and starving and/or ill animals will be more likely to bite.

Well I tried to go back and look for the dog and give him some food. But he never came back. Hard to tell where he went. He could have went anywhere by now. I'll try again later and see if I see him.
