Well, I tried to make sure she didn't have any by squeezing her nipples to see if milk would come out. Nothing came out, but maybe she was just dried up. There's nothing I can do now. I just didn't know if maybe she was missing her family. But when I pet her, she's ok. So she either wants attention, or my petting her distracts her from what she really wants. ???

Why? Where did you get that idea? I'm not being sarcastic, btw.

Btw - she's going to the vet first thing next week.

The heat cycle in female dogs is their period. but they only have it once or twice a year. And that is the time they can get pregnant if the are bred. So if she is in heat, don't let her be around any males that aren't neutered, or she can get pregnant. she is so lucky you found her. Have yo decided to keep her if you can't find her owners? She was put in your life for a reason.

She is never off-lease, so she is always supervised.

I think we will keep her if we can't find owners.

she is so cute, I am glad you found her and made some attempts at finding her owners if there are any...I am also glad you may keep her, sounds like she needs alot of love.

When we rescued my grandmas dog from the pound she cried alot for the first 3 weeks, she constantly needed to be reassured that all was ok, but then she slowly got used to everything and now she is a silly happy, self assured dog that never cries and is always asleep at grandmas feet lol..so her crying could just be nerves and uncertanty...

Unhappy

Her crying might be she is nervous about being in a new place and needs reassurance. And if she did have puppies or other dog friends, she might be missing them.

I've just got some weird feeling. My cat had a blood clot, and it led to slow kidney failing.

Where did you get the idea that she has blood clots?

I said that she was discharging what looks like clotted blood. All females (human, too) do this when they are on their periods.

Oh -
Left a message with the Dallas SPCA that I found a dog. Gave her description, where I found her, and my name and number. I'll keep you updated.

Thanks!

Update - All looks good. She has a very mild, non-communicable case of mange around her eye and on her cheek. So we have drops for it. After she gets rid of the mange, she'll get spayed. Yah! They have no idea if she's had puppies, and they didn't see any puppies IN her. They are figuring the blood is from her period.
They took a stool sample for parasites, and blood for a heartworm test (in the meantime, they put her on one month of Heartguard, and I'll switch her to Interceptor for next month). We'll get both results back tomorrow.
Let's see...she got all her shots. She is a good weight, looks good, and was VERY good! If we were just talking to the vet, she'd just go to sleep on the floor. And she didn't even wiggle for her shots. She did object to the kennel cough vaccine up her nose.
She weighs 32 lbs, btw. In case you guys care. I told her I wouldn't share her weight (she is a lady, afterall), but she won't hear about this.

She is super fast and love to run. We can't wait to get her spayed so we can take her to the dog park.
