I've also never heard anything bad about Frontline Plus. We, however, use Advantage because that's what the vet gave us. I've heard bad things about BioSpot and Hartz, though.

I live in Ohio too, and we use Frontline Plus all year around. Any eggs that might be in your house can lie dormant for a long time, just waiting for a live host and then they hatch and their population can grow from there. I wouldn't go a month without it just because seeing them freaks me out!
