Greyhounds
I saw a Greyhound today and I'm in love! She was a retired racer that was from a rescue group and what a great dog she was! This is the first time I've actually seen one in person and I was surprised at how tall they are.
A friend of mine knows someone that rescued 2 Greyhounds and said what awesome dogs they are. I've pretty much made up my mind that when I get my own house I WILL rescue a retired racing greyhound. I have been researching them since last winter, but today pretty much made up my mind after meeting one of these awesome animals.

I'd love to have one too, we have 2 retired racers as blood donors in our north hospital and they are absolute DOLLS!!! I think I posted a pic of them here somewhere, you might take a peek for it.

And here's just Bandit
Both are TOTAL sweeties. They are attached to my hip when I walk them unless I tell them it's okay to go and potty.

Ahhhh - what beauties! I'd love to have one too.
I've heard some of the "rules" are pretty strict, as far as having a certain height fence and what not before they'll let you adopt ... is that true ?

I think it depends on which agency you go through but from what I've read most places DO require you to have fencing for safety's sake.
Here's one of the pages I've been looking at and following to other links. Greyhound Rescue

Jade, thanks for posting the pics. They are such beautiful dogs! The one that I met was a beautiful brindle with a big white blaze down her face. She was sooooo pretty and well behaved.

We have friends who rescued a greyhound and she was wonderful! They have a big race track in Delavan, Wi so finding a rescue dog is very easy here. I wish I had a big fenced in yard!

The best pictures I have of him are on this website:
www.geocities.com/pinnygig2003
I realize this is an old thread but I found it tonight and had to comment! Greyhounds are wonderful dogs and are so deserving of good homes after their racing days.
If you do a search for Greyhound Pets of America, you should be able to find a listing of nationwide chapters including one close to you.
