He won't stop itching!!! I don't know what else to do!!!!

Orion has been itching like a madman for the past...I wanna say...maybe 4 months...

It's mostly his ears, above his eyes, and his shoulders. His ears went totally bald...I took him in to get a scrapping for mites, ringworm, etc. etc. everything came back negative....

I switched his food from Innova, to Timberwolf, to Merrick, to Solid Gold thinking it was maybe a food allergy...well he was itchy on everything...finally I switched him to California Natural Lamb and Rice, and the itching seemed to go away for maybe a month, but now it's back with a vengence!!! He itches so much he makes his ears and above his eyes bleed!

I don't know what else to do!! My mom seems to think it's because of the cold weather...does anyone have any suggestions for me!?

Right now he is strictly on the Cal Nat lamb and rice both dry kibble and wet. He eats two cups dry in the morning, and one can wet for dinner. I've tried Solid Gold seameal, and flax seed oil. It all seems to help for maybe a week or two, and then it's back to itching like crazy!!

my dogs at home are having a similar problem...the vet said OURS (may be different for your dog) have the equivalent of human dandruff. she gave us a prescription shampoo and it helps a little...they still tend to itch them selves but the doc. said there wasnt much else she could do... hope u figure it out!

my dog has sensitive skin and it sounds the same as what your dog is going through.
Go to your vets office or local groomers and see if they have a medicated bath shampoo.

Give him a good bath all over with this stuff.

If you can't find the medicated shampoo find a oatmeal based shampoo.

Both work on my dog every time. But u do have to bath them every 3 to 4 weeks thou.

Another thing to do is talk to ur vet about putting the Orion on allergie pills(antihistamines) That what my vet did went my dog kitty gets really bad

Shadow has been doing that lately and has little scabs all over his body. It's dry skin due to the weather and stuff....plus the fact that he's a golden lol
I give him children's benedryl and that helps some
I also bought Cod Liver Oil for him because I have heard from many people and read on an all golden message board that it could help with dry skin so i'm going to give it a try. Good luck with finding something that works for your dog.

I have many friends who swear by cod liver oil. I hope you have equally good results with your dog.

Our dog gets really dry skin in the winter time. It's the cold weather plus the heat that does it.

Everytime he gets fed, my mom takes and puts about a tablespoon of veggie or olive oil on his food. It actually keeps him from itching and you can't see his skin flake off anymore. It's what the vet told her to do.

That is strange the itching is only in specific areas of his body. The only cases I have heard where the dog is scratching until he or she bleeds stems from allergies. There are topicals you can apply that are 100% natural. I buy from an online pet store that has all natural products for dogs. All natural pets, I think is the name of it. Let me see what else I can find out for you.

Have you tried any foods with fish instead of any other meat? We've seen lots of skin improvements by using salmon based foods.

All of my dogs have problems with seasonal allergies. Ein and Tucker both chew their feet raw. Usually, allergies cause them to chew on their feet, so if his ears are all naked, I'm not sure if it'd be an allergy or not. There's a shampoo that we've been using that seems to help with the itches some. It's made by Oster. I'm trying to remember the name of it. Let me check online and see if I can find it. I'll recognize it if I see it. If I can't find it online, I'll look at it when I get home tonight.

Lesson: Remember to take time to think about what's truly important. Oh, and give your pets a hug.

Everyone has given great advice. Another thing that might help is brewers yeast...it's a pill you give them that helps with shedding and dry skin.

Can't find it online, but I'll check when I get home. I was told by Lucas' mom (a former groomer) that it is important to leave the shampoo on for a few minutes before rinsing it off, so that it penetrates the skin.

Also, did they do a skin scraping in more than one place? We learned with Colleen that just because one spot is clear doesn't mean that the entire body is clear. She had skin scrapings done in three different spots before the vet was throughly convinced that her mange was gone.

He's been getting it in his food for the last four days now and he seems to be itching less, but still itches some. I'm going to keep it up for awhile and hopefully it will help more. Poor pup. I even have a humidifier in my bedroom where he sometimes sleeps. We are thinking about getting one for the living room also since he spends a lot of time on the couch.

Natural balance has a good food for dogs with allergies. It is Natural balance fish and sweet potatoes. Other than that I would recommend getting a medicated shampoo from your vet. You are probably going to have to have your dog allergy tested

Jillian's constantly having the same problem. the vet thinks its allergies. they once told us to give her some kind of over the counter human pill I cant remember, and twice now theyve given her an allergy injection. nothings helped. we've literally gone to extremes to solve this ourselves by replacing all the carpet, padding, and flooring and switching to some new fancy-shmancy hypo...allergenic...blahblah carpeting. it helped for a week and she actually had clear skin but now we're suddenly back to stage 1 *big sigh*

I'm thinking about trying omega-3 vitamins from Drs. Foster & Smith, anybody got experience with those???
