heart worm testing

is it usual for a vet to want to do a heart worm test before giving out more Heartguard?? Cuz Dugan's been on it for...quite a while. and we've never had to get him "retested" to get our refills!

Yep, it's normal and (I might add) very responsible of your vet to do so.

huh,ok. cuz this other vet he went to before living with us, tested him, oohh, a few years back maybe, and haven't since cuz he's been on the meds. but this new vet won't give it to us unless we have it done. just making sure they weren't just trying to pay off their expencive equipment.

thanks

corgimom will become famous soon enough
Our vet tests our dogs once a year, when they go in for their annual vaccinations, but when I go in and ask them to fax a prescription for the heatguard for all 3 of them, they don't test all of them before doing so. We get an rx faxed every 6 months (we've found that drsfostersmith is much cheaper than buy it from the vet).

After seeing a shepherd come in with a gunshot wound: "You know we pretty much just paid for Ein all over again." (Pats him on the head.) "I'd do it again if he needed us to."

Lesson: Remember to take time to think about what's truly important. Oh, and give your pets a hug.
